Region Marching Contests in TX are starting soon.

Post by JLGORMAN » Sat Oct 03, 2020 10:59 am

The UIL has announced most of the Contest Dates for the UIL Region Marching Contests For this fall. With 33 Regions involved contest have been scheduled from 14 Oct to 12 Nov. Those Bands receiving 1st Division (1) Ratings will qualify to advance to Area Marching Contests, scheduled for 5 Dec 2020. Since this is an even year, only Bands in Class 2A, 4A and 6A will advance to the State Marching Contests in San Antonio on 12 Dec. This year has had numerous challenges to deal with due to the Pandemic. Of the 33 Regions, 6 have opted out of having their Bands compete due to heavy COV19 problems in their regions. Because of this the UIL has made many changes to the Marching Season.
1. Class A-4A Bands show can be 5 Minutes in Length instead of the 8 minute timing.
2. Class 5A & 6A Bands shows can be 6 minutes in length instead of the 8 Minute timing.
3. Class 1A-4A Bands are free to travel to any and all away football games.
4. Class 5A & 6A Bands are limited to home game performance, with this major exception, if both competing football teams are from the same school district both Bands can perform. This has been a challenge to some Leagues where 1 High School Districts are basically limited to 5 Games during the Regular season. In My city all 4 High Schools are in the same Region, thus they all can perform at 7 Games during the Regular season. On Houston, the CY Fair ISD has Ten HS in Class 6A that use two stadiums, thus almost every school in the District will have 9 Games to perform at since they will have only one non-league game and if the Non-league game is home, that means 10 chances to work on your show. Thus the fact that we have no BOA, US BAnds contests to deal with the Football games become more important.
5. There are 7 invitational contests being held this fall but only for class 1A to 4A Schools.

This has been a difficult year and for some Regions a tragic time with the Pandemic not allowing the schools to come together. On thing about being in TX is the UIL is able to do things such as scheduling events and taking care of schools throughout the state. We hope the coming contests will be sucessful. Football has been mostly successful, however there have been games canceled due to Positive Tests on one schools team. Some schools have had to go out and get games with other schools that have also had a game cancelled. This has made the season interesting because fans are seeing schools from 200-300 mile away coming to play just to get a game in. Many folks are learning about the Different Regions of UIL through this sad experience. We are just happy to be able to do these events when we look at other states West of US.
