Post by tptplr II III VII IV » Tue Nov 26, 2002 5:41 pm

u guys know of any good songs dat feature the trumpet?? I'm looking for something dark and strong.. if ur a trumpet player what i mean is something "not too brassy".. dark and strong... any suggestions?? If u guys heard the soundtrack from the PC game Baldur's Gate II, im aiming for something similar like dat.. danny elfman style.. intricate, but not too intricate..

i also wonder if u guys know of any songs i can do with the following instrumentation:

3 Bb trumpets
3 Bb clarinets
2 Baritones
2-3 Alto Saxs
1- flute/piccilo
1 snare drum
1- base drum
1- pit xylophones

thanx...

I really don't know what to tell you...You're going to have to go searching for the exact piece you want, cause you got pretty specific there. A tpt solo I love is Concert Etude, but everyone knows that one and it isn't exactly what you're looking for but I love it. Sorry...if I actually find any, I'll reply again.
p.s Trumpets Rock 8-)

Yeah, a guy in our jazz band played a trumpet feature called 'Round Midnight (classic). This is a very dark solo, as far as trumpet features go in Jazz. Give it a try, I liked it.

A song that me and anpther guy in my band love to play is "La Virgen de la Macarena". There's a lot of black on that piece of paper, but once you can play it, you can impress just about anybody.

A concert piece or a jazz piece? If you're looking for concert, Carnival of Venice is a good solo piece...but like Concert Etude, I think everyone knows that one already. Find an Arban's Book, there's 12 virtuoso-type solos in the back...Fantaisie Brilliante is another good one.

If you're looking for a challenging song, look for "Moto Perpetuo".
