Oboe purchase?

Post by vollkommen » Fri Oct 14, 2005 4:47 pm

I've decided to start learning to play the oboe, since my piano teacher's wife is a band director and oboe teacher. She recommended just buying a good instrument from the start, rather than buying a student model and then eventually upgrading later. I've thought it over and think this is a good idea, but I will most likely have to purchase a used instrument because of the cost. Any recommendations as to what makers I should look to and where I can find them? I've already had RDG mentioned, so any thoughts on that?

Thanks for your help.

well RDG is an amaziong shop with amazing prices.
Depending on where u want to go buffet is good for intermiediate and Loree or Riguatat are really good for pro oboes. Buffets cost between 1000 - 5000 and lorees are about 3000-5000. I have a loree and would recommend it highly.
