A dog. A collie named "Reveille" to be specific.

This University is more commonly known by a different mascot, but it's still acceptable to call them the "Fightin' Gobblers". Also, the Sousa march "Hands Across the Sea" was dedicated to this same university's military division (the Corps of Cadets).

try banana slugs and gauchos (sp?)
UC Santa Cruz - Banana Slugs
UC Santa Barbara - Gauchos
i think those are the worse mascots in the world...
Ha, try UC Irvine - Anteaters, sorry UCI Mike but c'mon anteater? I think that all the UC's except Berkeley and LA got screwed when it came to mascots.

And to quote UCI Mike, Santa Barbara is also Cal Poly's rivals (Central Coast you know), they're so rude at games. Glad we shut them up at the basketball game =) We almost beat Irvine too, if our team didn't play so inconsistently =/

I'd take an Anteater over what the other proposed mascot was supposed to be back in 1970 something. The other mascot considered was the Unicorn.

A "Unicorn"?

ugh

An anteater IS more intimidating than that...

Were they also planning for a petting zoo on campus?

The only other interesting tidbits I know about UCI is that one of the Planet of the Apes movies was filmed here as well as the new Ocean's 11 with George Clooney.

Someone wore that t-shirt to a UCLA game I went to.
