Westlake’s Wind Ensemble is going to be playing Dance of the New World by Wilson & October by Whitacre for one festival, and October & Lincolnshire Posy for another.

One of the concert band ensembles I'm playing in is playing Overture in B flat and Third Suite by Jager. The other is playing Satiric Dances by Dello Joio, and Vesuvius by, you know it, Ticheli. Our symphony pieces still aren't decided yet. I suspect it would be Outdoor Overture by Copland and Fugue in G Minor for symphony orchestra, but we might as easily replace one of those with either Finlandia or Tragic Overture by Beethoven (I think).

The event where bands, orchestras and/or choirs perform before 3 adjudicators for a rating of Superior, Excellent, etc. In Northern California, for the most part, they are put on by California Music Educators Association, in you area by Bay Section. Not all schools participate, but if yours does you may simply call it "CMEA". In many midwest areas they often (or always) call it "contest".bgirl781 wrote:What do you guys mean by festival?

Oh, okay Thanks... We're not doing CMEA, but we're going to a competition in Boston in April, and some of the pieces we're playing are:
Pastime, by Jack Stamp
Blue Shades, by Frank Ticheli
and either Equus by Eric Whitacre or New Century Dawn by (blanking on name...)
I think that's it...

Having THREE All State French Horns, doesn't seem fair to the rest of us.
