SCSBOA Honor Band Audition Pieces

Post by PercussionAndAllThatJazz » Wed Dec 29, 2004 6:43 pm

So I'm not sure about the other instruments because I don't play them, but this timpani etude...it's a musical aneurism to say the least. The keyboard etude is simple, the snare etude isn't bad. But oh my GOSHNESS this timpani piece! :frustrated:

Anyone else share my pain or just want to talk about your audition woes/excitement? Speak up!
Good luck & have fun!

well, the biggest issue for me has been finding time to actually sit down and practice the music...it's difficult, but very do-able, with practicing...but since I haven't had much of a winter break(when I would have practiced) because of the Rose Parade, I haven't had time to practice. Now, my audition is Sunday, and I have to kick it into gear...I started practicing last night, and then I got INTERRUPTED by my dad...that's something you NEVER do. Don't interrupt me while I'm practicing!!!!! lol. Anyways, that's my stress...

"a musical aneurysm..." I like that!

My son just finished his auditions up here for the VC Honor Band with that same timp piece...I've never seen him look quite so flummoxed as he did when he first got it, but he's got a great perc teacher that really worked him through it.

How'd you do with it?

I did pretty well. He only had us play the last section, and my tuning was impeccable and my accelerandi were right on. My stickings worked fine, the rhythms were good, a nerve error or 2 - small blips that had never happened before, and the most difficult parts went well...and I'm talking in percussionish. :drums: How did your son do? I hope he did well in his placement!
