SAN FRANCISCO RENEGADES PLAY IN THE YEAR OF THE SHEEP

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- The Renegades 2003 season will be blasting off to the sound of fireworks as they march down the streets of San Francisco on February 15 in the Southwest Airlines Chinese New Year Parade.
This is their third consecutive year participating in this event and decided this year to celebrate it a little differently … with an outright invitation to drum corps members everywhere to join in the festivities, become a Renegade for a Day and march the parade with the men in black.
Once again, the Renegades will be playing in the New Year of the Sheep with their version of “In the Stone,” by Earth, Wind and Fire, previously made famous by the Bayonne Bridgemen in 1980’s. This year, participants will join from other corps including SoCal Dream, River City Regiment, the CorpsVets in Atlanta, GA, Northwest Venture from Washington, Blue Devils, Vanguard, RoyalAirs, Kilties, Erie Thunderbirds, Reading Buccaneers

The San Francisco Chinese New Year Day Parade is the largest celebration of its kind outside of Asia, attracting over three million spectators and television viewers to over 100 performing groups. The fifteen-block parade route will offer decorated floats, martial arts groups stilt walkers, lion dancers, Chinese acrobatics, the newly crowned Miss Chinatown USA, marching bands, the Renegades and following the parade as the grand finale -- the 201-foot Golden Dragon, accompanied by over 600,000 firecrackers.

The parade will step-off at 5:30 on Market and Second Streets and wind around down Kearny for eight blocks. For those who can't make it to San Francisco, KTVU Channel 2 will again broadcast this procession.
On February 15, celebrate the Chinese New Year Parade with a margarita at Chevy’s – the official Party Central for the weekend - all parade participants and audience members are invited to join the Renegades in celebration after the parade. On February 15th, Chevy’s will donate 20% of your check to the Renegades for each check that has a flyer attached. Flyers can be printed out at www.renegades.org/chinesenewyear/ and are good all day.

For more information on the Southwest Airlines Chinese New Year Parade, visit www.renegades.org. You will also find performance updates for the Renegades touring season of "Red Skies at Night: Midnight in the Stadium of Good and Evil" coming to a city near you.

(Editors Note: Checking the Los Angeles area TV istings I see the parade will be televised at 7pm on our Mandarin Speaking KSCI Chanel for two hours... I have watched this parade for many years... You don't have to speak Mandarin Chinese to enjoy the parade... as a matter of fact it is fun to imagine what the airhead announcers are chattering about ... In addition you will probably enjoy seeing familiar commercials in Manadarin from Bank of America, McDonalds, and other major companies... The parade ityself is sponsored by Southwest Airlines.... Appropriately, the Sacramento Mandarins are also scheduled to march in the parade to the tune (the Renegades will love this!!!!!!) - Russian Christmas Music.
