Hmm... we had some pretty incredible drum major up in the north...

[ MACE ] Kevin Cato - Fairfield High (1991- 1992)
[ MACE ] Maureen Britton - Vallejo High (2003-2004)
[ FIELD CONDUCTING ] Ankit Jain - Lynbrook High (2002-2003)

I can't recall any great military drum majors at the moment, but these drum majors, nonetheless, were extremely talented! Watching them live or on tape was just as amazing... they've all had their share of undefeated seasons and high 90 scores! Not only that, but they were great leaders and go their band to work with them no matter what the circumstance. I remember a time when Maureen was a drum major at Solano Middle School... and she was destroying drum majors that had years of experience ahead of her. Usually, she'd rank number one overall.

The only time I saw Maureen was at State 2004. I was going to post a thread about her then but I never did. I remember everyone that was around me stopped doing what ever they were doing once she started spinning. None of us had seen her before and didn't expect much. But once she started to spin our eyes were locked. Right now almost everyone spins the same and its not really excited (personal opinion), but Maureens routine was so much fun to watch. She would make you hold you breath when she would do a certain move. I hadn't enjoyed watching someone like that in a long time.

Just want to express my opinoin

Ok almost everyone that people have posted can be called legendary but I have a problem with Daniel Munoz. There is no problem with thinking your the best but when you win beat Drum Majors like Abel Acosta at state and when you go to receive you trophie and jump up and down like u just won the super bowl that is just disrespectful. I lost a respect for Daniel at that point. To me Abel Acosta is a legend. Hell when i go to Drum Major comps almost every drum major is using his moves. Were is the originallity. As far as Im concerned there is none.

And as far as schools having traditions. Montebello talks about a signator move.
for many years there hole routine has been a tradition every drum major has had the same routine.
Ben schroder legendary thats questionable. Dont get me wrong he is a great person fun to be around but i would have a clean routine if i used the same one for 3 years.

P.C.

LOL
MONTEBELLO

PEOPLE CALL IT THE MONTEBELLO SIDE PLANE

HOWEVER IT IS CALLED THE"ALCALLA"

IT IS NAMED AFTER THE MONTEBELLO DM BOBBY ALCALLA IN 198?

I love that move. . .using it is fun. . .and putting it on different sides and planes and places is fun and hard.

i got to work with ben schroeder for a little while, learning from him. in my opinion, a drum major isn't legendary just because he/she can spin and/or conduct well. ben was a great teacher and very easy to get along with. he definitely led many of his students down a good path.

the ones i named had the personality, leadership, and dedication as well as the talent.

So BbConcert if being able to teach someone is what makes a person a legend then i guess Paul Hernandez could be called a legend.

He was ok on the L but he was a better teacher.
He tought Renee Soliz, Rocky Erhich, Jason Erhich, Holly Erhich, Patrick Lee,
And also helped Drum Majors Like Mindy Cabral, Chris Kalowski

All these poeple were great drum majors both on and off the L

Spin Doctor first of all I dont remember What years but it would of been around 88-91, but winning state does not make u a legend its the way you present yourself and the way you treat others.

I agre, winning state doesnt make you a legend. . .few Montebello DMs have won State and I believe Michael Kim is one of them and he is on this list. i dunno beng a legend is some one who is well composed, and stands out. . .i think this year there are alot of people that can be legends because we help eachother, and we are all good spinners. and a drum major is a spinner, leaderm and a all around good person.
