IMPULSE ACQUIRES NEW TRAILER

Impulse has a new addition to its fleet of equipment. We are happy to announce the acquisition of a 45-foot equipment trailer. Recently delivered from Arizona, this former furniture-style trailer already fits the bill as a custom equipment hauler. It has already been outfitted to carry drums and horns, as it was previously owned by two drum corps.

NEW PERCUSSION HEAD ANNOUNCED

The IMPULSE Drum and Bugle Corps would like to announce the newest member of the staff, Ike Jackson as Percussion Caption Head. Mr. Jackson comes to us with many years of experience and success in the world of marching percussion. We believe he will be an incredible asset to our percussion staff and help lead the corps to great things in future years. Please help us in welcoming Ike Jackson!

IYAO AUDITIONS

It's a new year and a new season for Impulse Drum & Bugle Corps. Sunday, January 5th and 12th are the dates for the 2003 Impulse Auditions. Anyone who wishes to audition for brass or percussion will have to meet certain requirements such as displaying basic marching and playing skills. Those who audition for color guard will be required to demonstrate basic movement, spinning and weapon use. An audition fee applies, see our website for details

RHYTHM REGIMENT PERFORMS FOR MOVIE PREMIER

By Terry Moore, director of Rhythm Regiment

The Drumline premiere was great! We performed twice, once for the crowd entering and later for the crowd coming out. The kids were cheered on by the crowds and people have actually been calling to sign their kids up for the group! We had a great time and they really gave us the royal treatment.

Initially, Michael Martinson (the Edwards 26 theater manager) wasn't sure what would happen. He could have contacted any high school or college drum line, but he had seen my ad in the School News. Afterward, he got a lot of praise from the staff, management and the audience!

I didn't have my entire crew, but 20 of the kids were really in to it. They were superb, especially the kids under age seven. They played some cadences and urban street beats that were similar to that of the drum line beats of the college in the movie.

My kids are really proud of themselves because they can see that they are really doing something, and they are motivated to learn more.

Upcoming events for Rhythm Regiment include a performance in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade on January 18th. Rehearsals will be Jan. 4th and 11th, for more information contact Terry Moore.

MYSTIKAL NOW IMPULSE "M"

One of IYAO's performing groups has undergone a name change. Impulse "M" is now the working title of our newest drum corps. "The name change more closely reflects our association with Impulse", says Director Rob Lowery. "We want people to know that we support IYAO." While the name has been changed, the purpose remains the same. Helping to support Impulse and to prepare members for the demands of participating in the flagship corps is the goal of Impulse "M".

The show ideas have undergone some changes as well. "We're still going with jazz, and we believe our audience will really appreciate what we offer," according to brass caption head Charles Hargett.

The 2003 Impulse "M" Show Program will feature:

Original Fanfare by Dan Zeilinger / Children Of Sanchez

Legend Of The One-Eyed Sailor

Chase The Clouds Away

Bellavia / Finale

For more information, email Director Rob Lowery.

IMPULSE MEMBER RECOGNIZED

Impulse 2001& 2002 Drum Major, Omar Vidana, was selected to participate in the College Band Director's National Association (CBDNA) Small College Intercollegiate Band (SCIB). This national honor band is formed from distinguished musicians from small colleges throughout the nation and will be showcased on the final day of the 32nd annual CBDNA national conference at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. Omar will represent Cerritos College (and Impulse) as one of 4 students selected from all of California. In Impulse, Omar has demonstrated the same drive and determination as a conductor and leader that has helped him become a great sax player. Congratulations and best of luck, Omar!

UPCOMING FUNDRAISER

The Bowlerama consists of bowlers (and their families) from all of our organizations (Impulse, Mystikal, Rhythm Regiment, & So Cal Dream). This event will benefit our members who need to raise money for their 2003 summer tour fee by getting pledges and bowling for a 3-hour period. Coming up on Saturday February 22nd from 2:00 - 5:00pm. More details to come, keep watching the website.

Trivia Answer: We're not sure, but that's the popular belief. By the way, the "Brick" used to belong to The Freelancers.
