What are some (in your opinion) some cool jazz pieces to play at a high school level? I played a version of Birdland, which was awesome and also Hot House.
Just curious....which ones have you played?

hey i may suck but the songs still good...haharicetaco wrote:Haha, thats not really high school level music Thi. Unless you're Poway or El Dorado, stick to Basie tunes . But yeah, channel one suite is definetly my favorite piece we played, and that had nothing to do with the 4 minute solonizmo wrote: channel one suite download it..its awesome
I didnt say anything about sucking. If you're from Mt. Carmel theres no way you can suck.nizmo wrote:hey i may suck but the songs still good...haharicetaco wrote:Haha, thats not really high school level music Thi. last year we (upland) played Count Bubba which is an awesome song. Download it! You'll be in heaven if you like big band.

Moorpark also played Count Bubba last year. It is indeed an awesome song. In fact all of Gordon Goodwin's songs are great.trakix wrote:last year we (upland) played Count Bubba which is an awesome song. Download it! You'll be in heaven if you like big band.
Duke Ellington's 'Jazz Cocktail' is a nice upbeat song, but would be best if your school has a talented jazz clarinetist. Also his Night Train is fun if you like flashy music.
I would also reccommend Thelonius Monk's 'Straight, No Chaser.' It's a classic and rightfully so in my opinion.
Dizzy Gillespie's "Manteca" is also an option.
Those are just a few suggestions.

Well, huh, Jazz then...
Of course! Every good jazz band needs to play Birdland, Hot House, Margie and others. I think that a really good jazz band would play a song requiring a tumpet solo (BML).
