How often does your band go on major trips?

Post by altohack » Wed Feb 11, 2004 4:40 pm

Have any of you bands that are in high school go out of state, or just to a major event?
I know that Mt Carmel and Chino went to Fiesta Bowl. Are you guys planning to anywhere else anytime soon?
How often does your band go on these types of major trips, and where have you gone?

Our band goes every 4 years, so every generation gets a chance to experience stuff. My band director said that it would be too expensive to go more often.
No regrets

We went to the fiesta bowl for the first time last year. I don't know when we'll go back, but it was fun and I wanna go again.

my band ussually goes to six flags every year in april for a festival but thats not really a major trip. Last year and the years before that when we had our previous band director, we used to go to San Fransisco for the Columbus day parade and then we would also go to mardi gras and march in the parade there. I went to San Fran and it was awsome but I never did have the privledge to go to mardi gras. I think we stopped goin to mardi gras after 9/11 for some reason but we went to san fran up until last year, everybody got pissed at our new director for cancelling the trips. but oh well, life goes on :)

a major trip would be like going to somewhere out of state or really far. normally it's once every 4 years to give everyone a chance. this year was australia (over the summer) i didnt go. i think we're doing one every 3 years...

When I was a freshie, it was a trip to Florida, then after my senior year it was a trip to Australia.
I've heard rumours the my old band director won't be doing any more trips for a long time though...they do require alot of work and planning, afterall.

Every year

Our band takes a tour every year. This year we were going to go to Seattle, but not enough people could afford it, so now we're going to San Franicisco. I'm so mad though because during the tour we ge to hear an orchestra perform Night On Bald Mountain by Mussorgsky. It was my first chance to hear one of my favorite songs LIVE, and I can't go because my brother's wedding is gonna be during those days.

Major Trips

Post by Band Mom » Thu Feb 12, 2004 5:24 am

Yes Chino went to the Fiesta Bowl this year. But then again that was during marching season.

Chino does a tour every year during concert season.
Every other year is a "Big" tour and the other is a "small" tour.

Every 4 years is Hawaii and Florida.

My daughter's Freshman tour was Hawaii, Sophmore tour was San Francisco.
Her Junior tour was Orlando, and that was the busiest, and her last was San Diego.
Chaperones pay the same as the students and my husband and I were chaperones for the last three years and we were proud of our kids.

I heard Chino is doing Anaheim this year.

We do major trips every 2 years, on a rotating basis, to So Cal (this year) and then in 2 years to Victoria, BC & Seattle. We try to keep the costs well below $500 for each kid, so trips to places like Hawaii or east coast would be impossible.

I used to think that a major trip was a trip to San Diego. Now a days I still think it's a big trip. Before in freshman and sophomore years we would go to Las Vegas but since we had a change in directors we now annually go to San Diego. It's cool and the trip in the bus definitely doesn't feel as long, but when you're sitting there with your girlfriend in the bus I guess it's not that bad.
Hi! I'm glad to have met you!

well our marching band goes to disneyland at the beginning of every year. thats about as far as our marching band goes. as for our wind ensemble, we go somewhere out of state every year, such as florida, and hawaii. this year were going to europe over the summer. :)

Every other year is an airplane trip. When it's a bus year, we usually go to So Cal twice, or like last year, So Cal and Portland. During 'big trip' years, we usually go to So Cal once and then go somewhere big. This year it's Hawaii for Spring Break. Our band director takes kids on the Europe Tour every other year as well. I got to do that this past summer.. great unforgetable experience.
