Fiesta Bowl National Band Championships Field Show Scores!

Post by coachcheryl » Fri Jan 02, 2004 7:06 pm

Here are the scores from the finals competition yesterday. I have to say I spent all week there and the whole event was awesome! I have never been to a better band event. Congrats to all the bands and California was represented well. I personally would like to congratulate Chino on their win and Mt. Carmel for placing 3rd. It was a tough competition and all the bands were great!!

Chino 93.90
Lawrence North 93.80 (this band and guard were awesome and the guard was flawless!)
Mt. Carmel 91.25 (my daughters band)
Brentwood High 91.20
Castle High 89.40

They only announced the scores for the top 5 bands. So, these are the only scores I have.

Drum Major
1. Brentwood
2. Nogales
Visual Performance
1. Lawrence North
2. Chino
Percussion
1. Lawrence North
2. Chino
Auxillary
1. Lawrence North
2. Chino
General Effect
1. Lawrence North
2. Chino
Music Performance
1. Chino
2. Lawrence North

Again, great job to everyone.

Other scores and a couple of corrections

Post by nopsbs » Fri Jan 02, 2004 9:11 pm

Just a couple of corrections.....

The Drum Major captions went to the drum majors from Brentwood and Castle (This I'm fairly sure of, since I was the judge )

One of the percussion captions went to Nogales and I believe the other did go to Lawrence North (The specialty captions are not listed on the recap I'm looking at, but I'm pretty sure that the Nogales percussion was 2nd)

The bands' scores were:

8. Marcos de Niza (AZ) 85.90
7. Nogales (CA) 86.70
6. Blue Valley (KS) 88.15
5. Castle (IN) 89.40
4. Brentwood, (TN) 91.20
3. Mt. Carmel (CA) 91.25
2. Lawrence North (IN) 93.80
1. Chino (CA) 93.90

General Effect (Music GE + Visual GE)

Chino 47.20
Lawrence North 47.90

Visual Performance (Visual Performance + Visual GE)

Chino 37.10
Lawrence North 37.55

Music Performance (Music Performance + Music GE)

Lawrence North 56.25
Chino 56.80
(For the record, Mount Carmel's score was 56.15...unbelievably tight competition!)

coachsheryl was absolutely correct when she said it was a GREAT band event!

All of the participants in the event should be proud of their high level of excellence! It is no easy feat to keep a demanding (as all of them were) show going at a high level 6-8 weeks after everyone else's season is over!

It was a pleasure to have been "up close" to all of that greatness!

Congratulations to all!

Dave Kuhns

Ermm...
If Lawrence North took GE by 0.70...
And Visual by 0.45...
And was behind Chino in music by only 0.55...

Then how did Chino end up on top by 0.1? :? :?:

I notice those three caption scores add up to be well over 100, so there's obviously more to this scoring system than I'm aware of.

Hi Phan...

I think the reason they add up to more than 100 is that the Visual GE score is used to compute both the GE caption award and the Visual caption award.

Here are the scores, by caption, by group:

Chino

Music Perf - 28.5
Music GE - 28.3
Vis Perf - 18.2
Vis GE - 18.9

Total - 93.9

Lawrence North

Music Perf - 27.65
Music GE - 28.6
Vis Perf - 18.25
Vis GE - 19.3

Total - 93.8

A fair question, however....

Later,
DK

Do you think it's strange that there's a way of how you look and how you act and how you think? Pretend they're not the same as you.
