COME ON 6A! Where are the bands!

Post by Ryan H. Turner » Sun Nov 23, 2003 11:54 pm

So next year--let's play the numbers...let's pretend...

Let's just pretend ALL of the San Diego schools are there--let's pretend no one "declines" to come--and let's pretend that WBA says all southern California schools are banned because, well, you're just too dang good!! (Don't worry--there's no hidden subliminal "I hate WBA" message in that...I'm just being goofy and it's late and I'm at the Fire Dept and I'm tired and I'm bored and and and...).

So next year...6A bands that would have to qualify--
EL DORADO
ETIWANDA
UPLAND
VALLEY VIEW
RANCHO BERNARDO
RANCHO BUENA VISTA DERANGED MONEY REGIMENT (inside joke)
POWAY
MT. CARMEL
VISTA
MIRA MESA
MISSION VIEJO
FOUNTAIN VALLEY
JOHN F. KENNEDY
ARCADIA
THOUSAND OAKS
NOGALES (???? are they big enough--size wise? I can't remember...)
CHINO
AYALA
WEST BAKERSFIELD
SANTA MONICA (are they big enough too?)
WALNUT
DIAMOND BAR

A field of 21 bands?? Did I miss anyone?? Not that 6A is the BEST division, but it has the biggest bands, and strangely, had the least amount of bands qualifying.

I have no idea why I'm posting this...I'm still bored...

There are some you would probably need to eliminate. As of this year, Nogales, Santa Monica, Mira Mesa and Fountain Valley all competed in 5A. And Valley View competed in 3A in WBA. But everybody else looks like a go! :)

I'm saying this as a "blind" person, but maybe add Granada Hills and San Marcos to that list?

Wow, on a side note, I just hit post no. 200!!!! Yay for me.

It's not that 6A had the least bands qualify, it's that they had the least bands apply. All 8 bands that applied in 6A got in. (I think Walnut applied but declined the invitation.) Maybe the big bands just want to get their marching season overwith and move on. It would be cooler if more of the 6A bands applied.

I went to the show Saturday night, and I got asked by many people why my band (Mt. Carmel) wasn't performing. And I honestly didn't know why. It was probably because we didn't apply. But I did see my band director in the press box! 8-) He was judging music. Well anyway, I won't get the chance to perform at Championships now because I'm a Senior, but maybe my band will get the opportunity to go next year.

How About BOA Regional?

Post by jacjar1 » Mon Nov 24, 2003 10:23 am

Again that sounds like a BOA regional. Maybe all these bands should apply for the BOA regional in Phoenix? Only problem is that its been moved up. The grand nationals are being held first weekend of November? or at least I heard that from someone :?

Most of the so cal schools are just starting their seasons so its not a good time..I think BOA standard of Judging would work since these bands are in wba and scsboa.

I dunno
Truth is not a theory..

I hear what you are saying Ryan. There are so many bands that can go out for Championships, and yet only 8 made it. I mean only eight. If I recall SCSBOA set this up so that they had their own championships to go to like WBA. Yet, now have of the 6a groups that can go, don't go. This year there were 8, last year 9. I mean if they are gonna go, the other groups should at leats give the others something to fear, like maybe they won't get in. Well, just the thoughts of an ex-band fool.
