Posted Scores

Dave,
Thanks for posting the scores, however I think many are looking for the WBA recap sheets so they can see the wide range between prelims and finals and try to make sense of it. WBA has not posted them yet.

If you're going to compare the sheets from prelims and finals, and try to make sense of it, good luck. I know our band (Valley View) did not have a very strong performance in prelims and scored an 83.35 and finished in 14th place. The kids came back and had a much stronger performance in finals and jumped a couple of spots to 12th place and had a lower score of 83.09. I realize it's a different set of judges for finals compared to prelims but the last 3-4 years the finals scores seem to drop for the bands that don't finish in the top 5-6 positions. I'm having a hard time figuring out why. Anybody else?

I would... they should comment more in off topic. I can't really say much about northern bands or even WBA activities cuz I don't get it/I'm not a part of it.
Sorry if we scare you people!
No regrets

The big difference seemed to be in 2 categories High GE which Valleyview lost 4 points in finals and in AAAA it was Auxiliary.

Only 1 AAAA School scored higher in auxilary finals than Prelims.

Beyer at +4.0

Ayala and Thousand Oaks were -6.0

Upland was -4.5

Clovis West -3.0

Mission Viejo -1.0

Fountain Valley 0.0

Thats a big drop in scores even with 2 sets of judges. :!: :?:

Unlike other band circuits, the WBA takes a cue from DCI in that they try to "widen the spread" in Finals. Look at DCI: a 12th place corps in semi-finals might score 87-88, then drop to 82-84 in Finals. Same thing, here, the judges are just trying to put some distance between the bands.

I understand that. Good point but its hard to grasp how everyone in AAAA with exception of one guard unit went down or stayed put in finals. We are talking about some groups who won the caption at previous events and most of whom had been progressing up in points. The six point drop in Ayala and Thousand Oaks put them at begining of the season scores. Thats almost an 11 point swing.
