Does anyone know of any good songs to play as solo for the euphonium/baritone?

I wasn't thinking of anything in particular but I need something to use as an audition piece for a college wind ensemble.

Here are a few I have played an a few of my favs.

These I did on my college senior recital:

Fastasia by Gordon Jacob - nice piece. disjunct and fun to play. You'll have a hard time finding it because it's Boosey & Hawkes and must come from England. Cost me about $40 for the part.

Six Studies in English Folksong by Vaughan Williams - Nice college. Good to show off tone and style

I played some other pieces but one was a transciption of a Haydn cello concerto and the other was a Brahms 4 movement folk song thing(orginally written for Alto voice)

Other nice selections are any of the Galliard Sonatas (12 in all) - If you want to be brave, buy the Bassoon arrangements, not the trombone ones. The Bassooon arrangements help show off that low range (but only if you have a 4 valve and preferrably compensating)

Thoughts of Love by Arthur Pryor - Nice fun waltz. I like it. I used it for my college audition piece.

Sonatina by Warner Hutchison - a standard for honor band auditions

Lyric Suite - pain in the butt but also a standard honor band audition piece

There are lots of pieces. Ya just gotta go look for them. When I did my recital I wanted to find pieces that weren't played often or used as popular honor band piece. Thats why i went for the cello concerto and the brahms song. Be creative, hang out in the cello section. Or look for bass/tenor/alto arias.

Well....let's see. The Haydn thing I used the cello part and took out things you can't do, like double stops. The Brahms was an alto voice part. Fantasia is written for Euphonium and Band. There is actually a full set of parts for a concert band accompaniment for it. Thoughts of Love ....get the trombone part. There is a trumpet version, but it's transposed up a step and sounds weird and doesn't feel right to me. Lyric suite is written for Euph and piano..... Six Studies is written for Baritone (Bb treble clef only) and Piano.

Anyway, go to jwpeppers or Marshall music and start searching.

The Volunteer's outstanding.

Several years ago I arranged the melodies from Shostakovich's Symphony #5, Mvt. II for solo euphonium. There was a lot of good tonguing work in there, plus some nice trills. I don't know if I still have it, but if I can track it down I'll send it to you.
