Post by Wildabeast » Tue Nov 18, 2003 7:00 pm

Even with DCI & BOA, it seemed there was a lot Eric Whitacre's "October" going around.

About October.

Post by Ace » Wed Nov 19, 2003 4:58 pm

We sight read that the other day. It wasn't too great though.......the sight reading that is. It's a neat song though and I'm glad to hear a great band like Highland(from Arizona) playing it.

I don't know if this count but with the high school parade bands Ancient and Honorable Artillary March was played by at least 6 different groups at Arcadia. If the group doesn't have the talent to pull that off they shouldn't play it.

more October

re: October

Leigh's Wind Ensemble performed it at Carnegie Hall last spring to a standing ovation. Beautiful piece that I hope everyone has the opportunity to play AND witness performed well.

West Side Story over-played? Certainly, but it's a crowd pleaser (as are most classic Broadway tunes) and will continue to be performed over and over again no matter how much anyone protests.
October over-played? Not even close for a piece that so many have yet to hear much less perform. Methinks the piece needs to be a lot older before we can say it's any where near over-played.

I agree. October is a beautiful piece (if done well) that many people have yet to hear. I'm sure it will be awhile before it's considered "over-played."
