YIM Championships Schedule - 10/08/16

While band season in California is just getting started, other states are finishing up! This Saturday is the Youth In Music Marching Band Championships at the brand new U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. The YIM Championships serve as both the Minnesota state championships and as a regional "all-around" championships.

Taking advantage of a brand new NFL stadium, the YIM Championships line-up is the biggest it has been in years; so large it has necessitated a move from three classes to four. Bands are classified mostly by directors choice based on competitive ability/desire. Class A bands are often small bands, small schools, bands new to competition, and/or ensembles without a lot of resources. Class AA bands are a bit more experienced and compete regularly, but usually only on a local level. Class AAA bands tend to be larger, more successful bands, who do well at local competitions and often compete at a regional level. And Class AAAA is for national-caliber bands, usually large and well-staffed, looking for the highest level of competition.
