Also, some comments:
1) Did R.K. lose it based on the D.M. drop? Doubtful. But in a venue where flawlessness reigns, that might have done it. Poor guy.
2) I think D.B. won by "brute force." Magnificent performance!
3) Loved the I.D. "pop" during D.B.'s drum intro.
4) Did you see D.B.'s line of concert horns! Wow.
5) Those sweepstakes trophies are LEGIT.

Thank you. It was a perfect day filled with many, many great performances by these kids. I'm thinking about possibly going up north for a NCBA spring band review.Blindman wrote:GOOD LORD DIAMOND BAR... fantastic job!

Diamond Bar was just incredible. What a sight to see ranks of 11 across and 21 across when they combined with Santiago playing Army of the Nile.

Okay, just for fun: have you ever seen a band win at Arcadia or All Western after the drum major drops their military or mace? (And I'm talking about the part where they compete, not 5 miles down the parade route where no one's watching.)RoS wrote:No.airons0678 wrote:Blindman wrote: 1) Did R.K. lose it based on the D.M. drop? 1,000 * .10 = 100 pointsairons0678 wrote:Blindman wrote:

That 1000 breaks down as follows:
500 = Music
300 = Showmanship
200 = Marching
Out of 300 points in Showmanship, the drum major contributes up to 20 points.
The RK DM scored an average of 17.5 in Showmanship which only translates into a .25 deficiency against the band's overall score.
The gap between the two bands' overall scores were .4
Did RK lose because of the DM dropping their equipment, not according to the math. Did it contribute to the score deficiency, sadly, yes.
The DM and the band had a great season, and he shouldn't be singled out for missing the top prize. Bravo to RK, and to all of the bands. I hope they celebrated 1st place in Class AA, because I know quite a few bands that would love to be at that level, and going home with the hardware that they did.

Didn't mean to single him out. Happens to the best. (Being the DM is hard work, and requires beaucoup concentration.) Overall, fantastic performance by Riverside King, and yes, 1st place at the Arcadia Band Review (of all places) is something to be very proud of.dmcoach wrote:1,000 * .10 = 100 pointsairons0678 wrote:Blindman wrote:

I know it comes with many weeks and even months of training and preparation, but for a drum major to drop his baton in front of a huge crowd (I can't imagine what was going through his head when that happened) and still keep his composure not only by finishing his opener, but to do the rest of his run without further errors, says a whole lot about the amount of dedication and experience he has. I give him a lot of credit for pulling it off the way he did.

That, and when he did drop, the band didn't flinch from start to finish. Having several days to watch the video, I'm still blown away by the Diamond Bar - Santiago combined performance of Army of the Nile. What an incredible performance! The showmanship, marching (21 across?!?), music and the team spirit made me think THIS is what marching band is about. I'm really at a loss for words, but congratulations to the bands and their directors for an amazing experience!
Wow.
Wow.
Re: Videos - 2015 Arcadia Band Review
I was there for the entire parade. Some really great energy on Baldwin Ave! I thought I saw more "give it all you got" performances. I could feel it with Diamond Bar, Kaiser and Mt. Carmel (although the jury is still out with me on their new uniforms - I like them up close but as a parade unit....not sure). I thought Chino gave a great package performance! Glendora was super enjoyable. RK was great as always but Diamond Bar just had that spark, everyone was just blown away.
Noticeable missing in my humble opinion, was the royal blue and white of Rancho Bernardo. I know, director's choice, but...

Also missing was the Mira Mesa Sapphire Sound but at least they'll be back next year (I'm assuming). You can still catch MM in action in the 2016 Rose ParadeHeyoo85 wrote:Noticeable missing in my humble opinion, was the royal blue and white of Rancho Bernardo. I know, director's choice, but...
