Re: Lineup - 2015 Arcadia Band Review 11/21/2015
i'll chime in and contribute to what dmcoach has started. These aren't predictions, just bands I would like to see do well in their divisions
Class C:
Point Loma: I think they're WAY better this year than last year musically. Unfortunately their scores haven't reflected it, but I think the ideas and concepts they're applying to "The Gladiator" are some of the best since Cole's bands did it.
West: I'm a big fan of their march, and they have all the capability to balance superbly. HUGE group to be competing in class C as well.
Foothill: One of the BEST interpretations of "Eagle Squadron" in my opinion, they started the season out strong, I just hope that there's some noticeable improvement on Saturday.
Class B:
Loara!!: They haven't sounded so good in a while. Big sound, good dynamics, and all of the voices are heard quite well. Very impressive performance by Loara this season indeed. I'm hoping that they take the division by a long shot. They have the musicality of the march going on.
Downey: Superb sound! It's been nice and strong all season, they definitely are gonna be one of the top contender's in the division. Their balance is one of the best, and they handle a Chambers march very very well. Brass is killing it! Guard work is very appropriate as well. They're sounding more like a Class A band than a Class B band. I will have to admit though, I preferred the uniforms they were using earlier in the season.
Temescal Canyon: CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN. Such a refined group in all aspects.
Class A:
Kaiser: A solid favorite of mine. Should be a Class AA band in my opinion, and they've spent all season proving it!
Roosevelt: Best interpretation of "Volunteers of the Union Army" in my opinion. Such an unexpectedly strong group, but I've liked their work since checking them out after the Riverside BR.
And then an unnamed band which I am affiliated with...of course I hope we do well, I'm skeptical with such a close division though.
Class AA:
Mt. Carmel: You can't put it better than dmcoach. I would like to say that 30 years later, they still put up the BEST "The Beau Ideal" (second only to Mt. Carmel 1985). I have a bad feeling that they won't be winning sweeps, but in my opinion, they're the best street band in existence at the moment. Best dynamics for at least 4 years running.
Santiago: Nice clean, rich sound all season. I feel like in a few years they'll be filling in the gap that Rancho Bernardo left behind in AA. This year though, they'll definitely be deserving of a place should they get one.
Glendora: A band that knows how to interpret a march! Killer dynamics from this band (maybe even on par with Mt. Carmel if I dare say so). They can play Alford and they know it! They were my top music pick at Loara, so I'd like to see them rise up there on Saturday.
Good skill to ALL groups at Arcadia this week, it's gonna be a tough parade, and one to remember!

I have to say I really love "Bullets and Bayonets." So much dynamics prowess involved.

I'm hoping for a Mt.Carmel victory. As Someone else said it, they have the best beau ideal since 1985's Mt.Carmel version. Razor sharp and confident guard and beautiful look on street for the band.

I watched the review and put it as Diamond Bar, Mt Carmel, then King. I thought Arlington did a great job too! DB's rendition of Army of the Nile gave me goosebumps. We shall see what the judges said, though!!

I've heard a rumor that Diamond Bar gave the performance of their lives and took Parade Sweeps again.
