I am nor sure what happened here, but the sound on this set of videos is very over modulated and causing a lot of distortion in the band's sound. It makes it hard to tell how balanced and clean they were playing.

I was there, on the trailer across from the judges stand. I can't say for sure how different the bands sound from the wrong side of the street as compared to on the judged stand, but my favorite musical performance was by Arcadia. Their use of dynamics yesterday was superb!

Hi, Dave. Thank you for your input. I'm not sure what may have gone wrong other than maybe the wind being the primary cause of the distortion you hear in the videos. I used the same settings on this set of videos that I have for the others I've done this season (Audio: 128 Kbps, 48,000 Hz, 32 Bit, Stereo, AAC
Video: 29.970 fps, 1920x1080 Progressive, YUV, 20 Mbps Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.000)

The only difference is that there were two cameras used for Chino, but even with that, I made sure the settings were set the same on both as well as on the software before I began rendering and processing the videos. I'll look over the settings again and see if there's a difference for when I do next week's videos (La Palma and Chula Vista).

As with any event, thank you for donating your time to an activity we all love!

Sorry that the audio might be a little off. Gotta love technology and it's quirks. :nenr:

Sometimes it can the microphone connection. Maybe it was a little dirty or somehow not making good clean contact. Or if your microphone is battery powered the battery might have been faulty and not giving good voltage to the microphone.

The last time I filmed parades I got REALLY good audio results using an Audio-Technica AT822 stereo microphone hooked up bypassing the camera's built in microphone.

Listen to the audio on this old video from the 2006 Arcadia Band Review where I used the Audio-Technica microphone. http://www.worldofpageantry.com/gallery ... rdo06.html

To this day, I still go back and listen to those wonderful videos you posted. The sound is top notch and very clear. I'll look into making some changes. Thanks again for your feedback.

Thanks Dave. Yes, it is a bit of work but I truly enjoy doing it. Your videos from 2006 actually inspired me to start filming more. I honestly didn't think my YT channel would grow to what it has become and I'm glad that I can share all the videos I've taken for all to see and enjoy.

Thank you for the compliment. Unfortunately my video camera, a Canon GL1, is now obsolete as it is not HD. It was broadcast quality in the old 4:3 480p format, but not up to today's 16:9 1080p standards. BTW, I used a 6 foot step ladder with board attached across the rungs as a platform for me to stand on and to support the tripod. With extra height I could be back off the street a little and not block the view of the spectators or the judges, but still get a perfect view of the bands. The extra height gave a better angle of viewing the bands on the videos as well. Adding the AT822 microphone in 2006 made a huge difference in the sound quality.

You're welcome. It's the reason I do it. You have a wonderful band, auxiliary, winterguard...the whole Arcadia music program really. I look forward to seeing the whole band and auxiliary tomorrow at Arcadia. Have a great time performing in your hometown event :)
