I'm new to SCSBOA. Who are the power house 1A Bands for 2013?

We will see. Check back on November 24th. Until then, enjoy a whole bunch of great students from a lot of schools,

Its too early in the season to tell for sure... Go to our scores page and look through last years SCSBOA results in Class 1A. That should give an idea of who "should" be strong this year.

While the others are right and you can never pre-judge something, there are some perennial heavy hitters in 1A. There have been many years in the past where LA, San Marcos, and Charter Oak were always the top three at Champs.

Other current 1A groups that have been regularly making it to Champs in 1A the last few years include: Oxnard, Lancaster, Yucaipa, South East. These are just a few off the top of my head. Some of the 1A champs groups from last year are up in 2A this (and Charter Oaks and San Marcos are back in 1A).

As usual you never know what happens until it happens and while many groups tend to be fairly consistent from year to year, you never know when something changes (different director at the school or the feeder school etc) that can have a big impact.

Just keep trucking along, put out the best shows you can, and see what happens.

I think that when bands drop down a class (Charter Oak, San Marcos) It almost always means trouble for that band. Hugh loss of membership or students moving on to do other activities.

Just my thoughts on the subject.

Your Thoughts please?

I wouldn't bet on it being trouble for either group. They were both pretty small for 2a last year and did very well. Probably more likely they are close to the top of the 1a size instead of the bottom end of the 2a size. Charter and San Marcos both regularly outscore bands a division or two bigger than them so I would feel safe assuming they'll continue to be powerhouse groups.

San Marcos and Charter Oaks we perennial 1A powerhouses before they grew to be small but excellent 2A Bands (1st and 4th place respectively at 2012 SCSBOA Championships). So they will probably be forces to be reckoned with in 1A.

Well,

I may have spoken too soon. San Marcos clearly is still one of the best 1A Bands in SCSBOA.

I just saw the scores from Valencia. Great Job San Marcos Band.
Good luck the rest of the season!

Do not discount Los Angeles High School, current SCSBOA 1A champions. Everyone always overlooks this group, but they have an outstanding dedicated director and always have an entertaining and competitive show.
And remember, they come from the inner-city, they are not from a rich suburb.

I have brought my band (Don Lugo) back into the SCSBOA mix. For the past few years we have not done the required three shows to qualify. With 34 bands competing, it will be interesting to see who gets in and what scores it will take. The early score range for 1A is from the 30s into the 70s.

Our first SCSBOA performance is tomorrow. We take with us an SCJA 68 and a WBA 65 (better performance, lower number). I think we can make the top 10, only time will tell.

Yes. Charter Oak, San Marcos, and Los Angeles have frequently shown up as top smaller-division bands. According to 2012 champs, LA was 1A gold, San Marcos was 2A gold, and Charter Oak was 2A silver. Undoubtedly, all three are still extremely strong contenders for the 2013 season.

The 2013 grid is already up here. Once all bands get all three of their scores in, the pattern will be more obvious. But as of now, it seems that San Marcos in in the lead followed by LA and then Charter Oak. San Marcos is being consistently high. LA is in a good place with the highest single-comp score so far. Charter Oak is following close behind.

Did you hear Gabrielino who's in 4th changed all their drill!

I doubt if that is true. They may have had to rework their drill to fill holes or fit in new people. I wish them luck in whatever changes they had to make.

panicpete. I highly doubt that Gabrielino changed their entire drill. I heard that they've really cleaned up their work and are confident with what they'll be presenting at championships

This isn't drum corps. There is not the rehearsal time for a high school band to rewrite an entire visual book mid-season.
