So, the Woodcreek competition just ended...great performances! What do we think about the judging? Who do we like for the championships? Any favorites? Surprises? Let's have a friendly discussion about the bands!

Vanden and Bella Vista tied. I believe Advanced was Franklin, California, Vintage, Amador Valley then Granite Bay. I don't have the recap in front of me but I think 3 groups in novice were DQ'd.

And how about California, they were in Intermediate at the Fairfield show. Coming up quick.
Would love to see the recaps if anyone has them.

the floor judge said it was from having bare metal touching the unprotected gym floor.

One thing that kind of irked me, and possibly some other people, was that after the packets were passed out (re-caps took an age to print for percussion) Franklin's staff exited the room hootin' and hollerin' due to their victory. I can understand excitement about a win......but gotta have respect for other groups....

I'm usually very aware of this type of thing, as are other members of the staff; this in no way represents us. In any case, no disrespect was intended if we upset anyone and my apologies if we made anyone feel this way. Everyone puts their hearts and souls into their programs, including ourselves. We had a rather rough start to the day, so we were just excited for the kids to have overcome the issues.

I thought the students (not sure which school they were from) who danced/yelled before the awards were not acting very professional. But I thought performances were excellent. I was surprised by 3rd for Vintage and last place for Granite Bay in the Advanced division.

Also, does anyone know when the scores will be up on the NCBA website?

One of the judges used to be the assistant band director at Granite Bay before they started to win and became famous. It wasn't a happy transition for him and is the reason why there's resentment. Just shows how big a role politics play in NCBA judging.

That is not accurate, Granite Bay had a 2 point penalty for timing which put them in last place. The judge that used to work at Granite Bay is very good friends with their current director.

Granite Bay's Show is awesome this year and the kids as well as their drum staff should be proud.

Now its just time to clean it up

The Advanced division is going to be extremely competitive come finals. Can anyone catch Franklin?
