And The New Golden Valley Band Director Is.......

Post by Cardinal Regime » Fri May 18, 2012 10:18 pm

I'm happy to announce that the new Golden Valley High School band director is Michael Vasquez. For the past several years Michael has been the band director of Tenaya Middle School in Merced. His bands have been dominant in Northern California competitions during that time.

Making it extra special is that Michael is an alumnus of Golden Valley High School. Good luck Michael. We know you'll do a fantastic job.

Mike is an outstanding selection for the GV band director position! Smart, personable, and talented are words that come to mind when I think about Mike! And a G.V. alumni to boot! Mike gives the Cardinal Regime the best chance for continued excellence established by former band director Greg Christiansen! Congratulations Mike! :D

I have to admit that I was nervous for Golden Valley's future without Greg Christiansen, seeing how he built the program and knew the secrets to running the machine, but after attending their spring fling and listening to Mr. Vasquez perform with his groups I have come to the reassuring conclusion that they will still be the band to beat in NCBA. I don't know if it's the water in Merced, but they just produce some very talented people. Good luck and congratulations to Mr. Vasquez and the new era for Golden Valley.

Agreed DG95! "The Force is strong in this one!" Being schooled in the ways of "Mr C" is a good thing! :D

Congrats Mike! I, too was worried when I heard that Mr. C was retiring. When I found out that Mike was taking over, however, it was almost a relief lol. I graduated from GV so I always want them to do well.
