(OPEN CLASS)
I'm not sure of the exact scores but I know that Vallejo scored an 88, Rodriguez scored an 87 (excluding the 2 point penalty), and Del Oro scored an 85.

Vinnie is so right ... but a few weeks late. Look at the results at Rodriquez http://www.ncbaonline.org/winter_activi ... z_2012.pdf
Benicia was at an 88 on February 11!

Re: 02/25/12 NCBA Delta Winter Review
*sigh* another reason why NCBA just doesnt get it. Other circuits that have started last month with higher caliber groups are BARELY breaking the 80's. no offense to Benicia and other Open Class groups in NCBA, its not your fault, but after seeing those groups, i highly disagree with the scores reaching the high 80's. But to each his own i guess....
Re: 02/25/12 NCBA Delta Winter Review
But wait ... there's more ... just take at look at Bella Vista's scores from Friday to Saturday ....
Friday ...
http://www.ncbaonline.org/winter_activi ... o_2012.pdf
an 82.35
Saturday ...
http://www.ncbaonline.org/winter_activi ... h_2012.pdf
an 83.40!
Very consistent ... until you look at the breakdown. The scores for Music and GE flip flop from day to day. If I were on the staff of BV, I wouldn't know what to think or where I really stand. Ugh...inconsistent [though the perception by looking at the total is consistent].

I definitely wouldn't give ANY drum line an 80early this early.....especially in ncba. Typical.....

This is standard NCBA scoring. Look at marching bands in the fall. I've seen bands score 94 the second week of October. Then they grow, grow, grow, and peak at 95.5 or 96 the third week of November.

Seeing scoring growth throughout the season is a great thing. Getting the right ranking however, in my opinion, is even more important. It is possible that that particular group had a better GE show and worse Music execution on Saturday.Georgie wrote:But wait ... there's more ... just take at look at Bella Vista's scores from Friday to Saturday ....

Inspiring a student to be a great musician requires personal music awareness and the willingness to accept your own strengths and weaknesses.

This is upsetting to read. So what you are saying is no matter how good or bad a line is, you will not score them in the 80's because of the date. The shows that scored that high, were very good and clean, unfortunately they were short. The judges scored what they saw. Vallejo only performed a sliver of their show and it was impressive. Now they decided to show only the clean part of their show where Del Oro performed their complete show but not as accurate. Were the placements accurate? Were the comments on the tape helpful? Don't speak for the directors and make assumptions. Let them talk to the judges with an open line of communication. The biggest problem with NCBA is that to many people think they know what is best for the circuit and forget why we are truly here.olledowerdna wrote:I definitely wouldn't give ANY drum line an 80early this early.....especially in ncba. Re: 02/25/12 NCBA Delta Winter Review
hmmm.....actually, the biggest problem with NCBA is the inconsistent judging. Even top WGI groups dont score in the 80's at the first show. And the problem with giving a group a high score this early on is the growth scale later on. Obviously groups start with incomplete shows. They work hard, fix tons of stuff, then improve 1 point at the next show?? THAT makes no sense. Id rather start with a low score, then see it improve over time, reflecting the groups hard work, rather than get a really high score at the first show, and never have it improve. Also, NCBA has instructors that DO know alot of stuff, and their comments (which are often ridiculed or rejected, such as what you did) are shot down. And I think the person you quoted has PLENTY of experience. But i guess that means nothing to you....10r_Line wrote:This is upsetting to read. Re: 02/25/12 NCBA Delta Winter Review
I know it's also different sheets and a different judging panel, but NCBA is consistently inflating the scores.
In all actuality, "Open" class in NCBA = "Open" class in WGI. However, the scores do not resemble that. My group (Foothill) received an 88.9 and won the Open division at Fairfield yesterday. We're going to the WGI regional next weekend in Ceres, and will be LUCKY to break 80. Not a bash on my kids whatsoever, just a completely more relevant way to adjudicate the program.
