Re: SCSBOA Rankings, Week 3 (10/17/11)
I think you're missing La Mirada from the 3A division? They beat Yorba Linda this past weekend. Unless bands have to compete more than once to be ranked?
Re: SCSBOA Rankings, Week 3 (10/17/11)
Looking for Ramona HS (2A) on the SCSBOA grid and they don't even show up... Where have they performed?

Re: SCSBOA Rankings, Week 3 (10/17/11)
An oversight on my part, I never logged their score. Thanks for the catch. La Mirada has been added.cough wrote:I think you're missing La Mirada from the 3A division? They beat Yorba Linda this past weekend. Unless bands have to compete more than once to be ranked?
Ramona from Ramona (San Diego County) performed at Scripps Ranch on the 8th. Remember, only bands signed up for SCSBOA Championships will appear on the grid. I'm pretty sure Ramona usually ends their season with the MBOS Championships.tim8w wrote:Looking for Ramona HS (2A) on the SCSBOA grid and they don't even show up... Where have they performed?

Re: SCSBOA Rankings, Week 3 (10/17/11)
It's not a straight score comparison, as sometimes at a show the scores are uniformly low or high, and sometimes a band will go a couple of weeks without competing. Contest scoring factors, scoring margins between bands, and a few other variables are factored in. The scores are then extrapolated to produce a current projected final score for the season (this is calculated as the third Saturday of November, regardless of when the band's season actually ends).mastertrumpet1 wrote:How come Los Angeles is higher than Lancaster, Simi Valley and Otay Ranch? they are scoring higher then them. or are you rating it not by scores?
STATISTICALLY speaking, Los Angeles' 62.50 at Kennedy on 10/8 was more numerically significant than Lancaster's 65.70 at Royal on 10/15. That said, Los Angeles' "lead" on Lancaster right now is only 0.40 in the rankings.

Re: SCSBOA Rankings, Week 3 (10/17/11)
To go one step further in trying to explain this... if all of my SCSBOA 1A Top 10 met at the same competition on November 19th, using all the data from 10/15 and prior I would project the scoring to be...
77.05 Oxnard H.S., Oxnard
72.90 San Marcos H.S., Santa Barbara
72.30 Santa Margarita H.S., Rancho Santa Margarita
71.45 Los Angeles H.S., Los Angeles
71.05 Lancaster H.S., Lancaster
69.60 Otay Ranch H.S., Otay Mesa
68.75 Simi Valley H.S., Simi Valley
68.15 Nordhoff H.S., Ojai
66.90 Tustin H.S., Tustin
66.50 Sunny Hills H.S., Fullerton
Of course, with every passing week the data is refined and the rankings are revised. As one knows with statistics, the larger the sampling size the more likely the statistical projections are going to be accurate.

Not that Esperanza scored well last weekend, but they did beat University straight up at Valencia. Not sure why they would be behind them.

Re: SCSBOA Rankings, Week 3 (10/17/11)
University's performance relative to Woodbridge at the Tesoro show contributed just enough to the formula for them to scrape by Esperanza in the rankings (the margin was only 0.15).OldTrumpet wrote:Not that Esperanza scored well last weekend, but they did beat University straight up at Valencia. Re: SCSBOA Rankings, Week 3 (10/17/11)
Did anyone see Oxnard's show last weekend? A 71 at a first comp is pretty rare in 1A. Was it that good?
Re: SCSBOA Rankings, Week 3 (10/17/11)
Do you calculate the schools total scores or just take the highest score thus far? I am not understanding your system when you have bands ranked higher than other band that have scored higher.

yeah i saw the show. i was there supporting Lancaster highSocalD wrote:Did anyone see Oxnard's show last weekend? A 71 at a first comp is pretty rare in 1A. Was it that good?
well anyways. Oxnard did sound good and had great balance. I think that why they scored pretty high on Music and Ge. and made them get a 71. but i think they should have gotten something a bit lower but that just my opinion.
