MBOS Championships - 11/12/11

Post by Hostrauser » Tue Aug 30, 2011 3:48 pm

Shaping up to be a juggernaut of a show this fall. Two powerhouses from north and central California, and several out-of-state bands are already signed up. There's a tentative schedule on the site, but here's the current roster for the show (I already can't wait to see that Sapphire class!)...

BOC (Black Opal) 55-85 total musicians
Chapparal H.S., Temecula, CA
Charter Oak H.S., Covina, CA
Claremont H.S., Claremont, CA
Covina H.S., Covina, CA
Moorpark H.S., Moorpark, CA
Murrieta Mesa H.S., Murrieta, CA
Ramona H.S., Ramona, CA
Santa Fe H.S., Santa Fe Springs, CA
Temecula Valley H.S., Temecula, CA

OC (Onyx) 80-100 total musicians
Aliso Niguel H.S., Aliso Viejo, CA
Basic H.S., Henderson, NV
Great Oak H.S., Temecula, CA
William S. Hart H.S., Newhall, CA

SC (Sapphire) 101+ total musicians (mandatory) or any number of musicians (by choice)
Chino Hills H.S., Chino Hills, CA
Clovis West H.S., Fresno, CA
Desert Oasis H.S., Las Vegas, NV
Green Valley H.S., Henderson, NV
Fountain Valley H.S., Fountain Valley, CA

BOA-caliber judging for half the cost. Gotta love it.

Please understand I'm most naive. Define "BOA-caliber judging" for me.
Quality music educators from across the nation, judging on sheets that are very, very similar.

The MBOS, I believe, does not use California-based judges (to help eliminate bias) and flies in judges from across the country to judge their shows.

At the first show alone, 5 out of 9 judges are from CA, many from southern CA.

>>>... judging on sheets that are very, very similar.<<<

Wasn't there a discussion about a show being cancelled because their sheets were "very, very similar" to another circuit's?

Don't get me wrong.... I'm glad that marchingmusicenthusiast is happy with the circuit he is involved in. Let's just make sure that the comments we make are A) factual, and B) not a 'slam' on another organization.

I'm a huge fan of both MBOS and BOA. Did I say something that led you to believe otherwise?
