Hostrauser's DCI Rankings - Week 4 (7/11-7/17)

Post by Hostrauser » Mon Jul 18, 2011 12:21 pm

For those who need a refresher course on how I compile these, I track each corps' performances for the entire week, even estimating what they would have scored at a show even though they had the day off (basing this off the scores of other corps that they have been in direct competition with). As this ranking is based off the entire week, rankings are usually BELOW the corps' most recent or highest score. This is not an attempt to predict the future, just a snapshot of how the corps has performed over the entire week. Weekend shows (Fri/Sat/Sun) are usually better attended are thus given more weight in the ranking. Rankings run Monday through Sunday each week, with the newest rankings to be posted each Monday.

Strange in a larger field BD can beat Cadets, but head to head it's a different story... Can't figure that one out.

I can't wait to see and hear all the changes being made in all corps. Finals should be pretty wide open, except for maybe the top spot. But does anyone else NOT really feel the Cavies show?

I dunno, I wouldn't rule out Crown or Cadets just yet. Cavies haven't left them in the dust like I expected.

Well have you seen the shows? Every show has a weakness. Nothing feels like a champion just yet (if that makes any sense). There are things I really like and really dislike in every show.

I'm a homer for sure, and I bleed BLUE but I really believe with the right visual changes, BD can still be in the mix. We'll see.

Any way to sort out where all the corps score against each other in between both classes? Still find it odd that even though they're letting Open class back into World class quarters, the Open class won't be evaluated on World sheets until Thursday DCI week.

I'm still hopeful for Santa Clara to come back up. Blue Knights are underrated IMO. Madison has a great show but I could see them being passed up. I think 10 maybe 11 corps could break 90 this year.

Year in, year out, the Blue Devils have some of the best staging and (when they aren't just running from A to B) transition drill in DCI. That said, I think the overall visual program this year is very tepid and the meat-and-potatoes drill is flat-out boring. Even with visual changes, though, I'd be surprised to see Concord in the Top 2 at Finals.

Usually, by the end of the season you can subtract 17-25 points from the Open Class scores to get a rough World Class estimate. Right now that gap isn't quite there yet. I'd say subtract 10-12 points from each Open Class score to guesstimate their World Class score.

Not sure the music book was constructed with the highest points possible either... (BD).
