Re: 2011 BOA Regional Championships Schedule
BOA has sent out a letter stating that the So. Cal Regional is in danger of being canceled. They need at least 14 bands to make it happen and so far they're at 10.
No knock on the Hemet folks, but I have to believe that choice of venue has something to do with the low numbers.

Re: 2011 BOA Regional Championships Schedule
Well something is causing some SoCal bands (Ayala and Vista Murrieta) to travel to the St. George, UT, regional. That's a good 6 or 7 hour bus ride at least from SoCal. St. George is a beautiful place, however I don't think I'd plan an overnight band trip there for the beauty alone when there's a similar competition locally.

Re: 2011 BOA Regional Championships Schedule
My guess is they probably want a BOA experience, and doing the Hemet show in southern CA might conflict with another circuit/organization on that given date.
Re: 2011 BOA Regional Championships Schedule
According to the line-up, Vista Murrieta is attending both competitions. Ayala has only signed up for Utah.
Interesting, only 5 So. Cal. bands at Hemet so far... the others are from No. Calif., Texas, Nevada and Arizona.

Re: 2011 BOA Regional Championships Schedule
As for the SoCal Regional. If BOA really wanted more groups to attend it the first thing they need to do is find a place other than Hemmet to have the regional. It's not even that large of a stadium. 2 years ago when it was at a college stadium (College of the Canyons) about 30 bands where at the regional.
HS stadiums I'm sure are cheaper than colleges to rent......I'm sure they could have found a school more centralized

Re: 2011 BOA Regional Championships Schedule
BOA Grand Nationals are looking interesting...
88 out of 90 spots are filled, and there are some stunning absences:
No L.D. Bell
No Kennesaw Mountain
No Plymouth-Canton
No Tarpon Springs

Re: 2011 BOA Regional Championships Schedule
Found out Plymouth-Canton isn't going because they will be in the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade just two weeks later, and they couldn't afford two big trips so close to each other. Also, Plymouth-Canton might make this a trend, where they ditch BOA Grand Nationals once every four years for a different big trip (London, Orlando, etc.)

Re: 2011 BOA Regional Championships Schedule
No mistake. From what I hear, San Antonio this year, Atlanta in another year or two, and then Grand Nationals a year or two after that. Fountain Valley wants to build a national presence.
Re: 2011 BOA Regional Championships Schedule
Unfortunately, Fountain Valley will not be attending the San Antonio show this year due to budgetary concerns. We are however looking forward to competing at the St. George regional in late October. We were really looking forward to Texas. I was really looking forward to my students hearing the quality of the top tier Texas bands. I had the pleasure of attending the San Antonio show last year as a spectator (with my brother Alan), and the quality of music was astounding, jaw dropping, and inspiring. We will make the trip to Texas someday.
