I am the band director at Dublin High School and look forward to being a part of WBA. Thank you WBA for allowing us the opportunity to host a show. Have a STRONG FINISH to the end of 2011.

Paul....sorry you didn't get a good response from NCBA. Join the club. You will have much success with WBA.

Thanks Russ. After 20 years of being a part of NCBA (past board member/adjudicator/clinician/festival & contest host), this decision to move to WBA for field shows comes with a sense of peace. I need to make decisions that are in the best interest of my students and in a "unique" sense ... for my own children who will be a senior & sophomore next year. I am excited about what WBA will provide for my students and I am also excited about seeing some old friends more often and making new ones. Dublin will participate in NCBA parades... for now parades will continue to be part of the program.
Hope to see a number of bands/guards October 29, 2011 GAELS STADIUM. We will do what we can to make our FIRST EVER show one that those who attend will return and make it even better and stronger for years to come!! Thanks again WBA for entrusting our organization with this event.

Thanks again Russ!!

Interesting that after a 3 year run, there's no show at Rancho Bernardo HS this year. Seemed to be a pretty successful show.

Any insight?

Live Oak Emerald Regime Invitational

Further to Mr. Guard-Dad's post, the same question also applies to the Live Oak Emerald Regime Invitational (?)

My guess is... Schools not hosting a show probably has more to do with facilities and dates more than anything, or new leadership of the program.

I'd say in the case of RBHS it's the later. :td:

Don't forget that the "new leadership" ran the successful show last year. There's more to it than that, but I'm not at liberty to discuss the matter just yet.

With regards to the ERI, I believe it was a combination of struggling to find adequate facilities (once San Jose State balked at letting Live Oak use their stadium for the show several years ago) and declining attendance that lead to the demise or suspension of that show.

The show was inherited by the "new leadership", then a year later they're not hosting a show. It is what it is.

Coincidence. Remember, the new leadership came from another WBA 5A band. As I say, there are other forces at play here. But as I am not affiliated with Rancho Bernardo it's not my place to expound upon them at this time.

That's too bad; I would have loved to see them compete at more WBA events.

Here's my theory. Looks like the 2011 SCSBOA field tournament schedule was decided earlier than the 2011 WBA tournament schedule. Not totally sure if this is accurate, but I believe WBA allows only one tournament per area on a weekend (North, Central, South), meaning the only weekend Rancho Bernardo would be able to host their tournament would be 10/22 which would conflict with the Poway Tournament, a sister school.

I think there's a mutual respect between the Poway schools hosting tournaments (Poway, Mount Carmel, Rancho Bernardo, Westview) not to schedule a tournament the same weekend as a sister school. Just my opinion.
