hey what does everybody think of north(blue star regiment)?
are they cool?
My office is 2 blocks away from North H.S. and just about every time I get on the 60 freeway I see them on the practice field. It can only get better. Always been one of the great groups on that list of under rated or untalked of groups. Amazing to see every year the dance team do those splits. ouch

JWN Blue Star Regiment
As you will see by my posting name, Blue Star Mom, I have been aquainted with this marching unit for 4 years. My daughter is a recent JWN graduate, a 4 year member of the BSR. I can hear the drum line practice from my backyard.
I have seen the BSR through I do not know how many shows (I lost count) these past 4 years. I am just an observer for this season. Next year I will have another BSRmember in the family.
Anyway, I like the music, the theme is good. I especially like the propellers and the portraits used as the main visuals. The music flows nicely, and the band sure knows how to march! The colorguard and drill team always mesh nicely with the musicians in the band, in that they march in and out amongst the band. I do not care for bands as much when the colorguard stands to the side, while the musicians march.
It always amazes me how Mr. Jackson, and Ms. Schive put together their show each year. I know that a lot of hours are spent learning to march, play, and in competing.
I was amazed to arrive at Rubidoux, our 1st competition, and have the lights in the stadium go dark, and the BSR finish it's full show. Then to come out and march again with the lights on a 2nd full performance. That is pretty amazing to me.

Why is the star gold?
This is from the BSRIMA website, Listed under BSR traditions
Star Logo
The logo used to represent many of the units of the program is an exaggerated star of blue and gold (the school colors). This star is located on the Pride Sign with the saying "Through These Doors Champions Pass!" Members touch the gold part of the star as they leave the room for performances to take a part of the star's heart of gold with them to performances for good luck.

Well that is a good question. My daughter says it is the band with a heart of gold. You can always ask Mr. Jackson the BSR director.

I think that North is an absolutely amazing group. I've looked up to them since my freshman year...and this year we are actually competing against them at some competitions. Its an honor to be in their division, I think they are a very classy group. I'm a member of Murrieta Valley High School's Crimson Cadets. I'm the Percussion Captain...and our student leaders are always lined up behind North's during awards. The kids seem very respectful; a very classy group indeed! Good luck for the rest of the season North....I believe we'll be seeing you tomorrow at Lester Oaks??

Lester Oaks, the "BEST"
The Sweepstakes awards were split between several bands, with Trabuco Hills taking sweepstakes percussion, high visual, Murrieta Valley taking Sweepstakes Band, high general effect, high music, and the BSR taking Sweepstakes Auxiliary. The BSR also won 2nd place percussion, Band 5A and Grand Sweepstakes (combined parade/FST scores. I have never stated that we are the BEST, many wonderful bands are out there. Murrieta Valley is very good, and we have both won sweepstakes competing against each other.
What bands do you think are better? Let's stay with 5A. Thank you.

Re: BlueStarMom
Thanks! I was a little bummed that we didn't sweep percussion, but its okay... I must say, me and my fellow student leaders were talking to Norths' leaders tonight and complimented them on what a wonderful person you seem to be. My drum major said that "you always have the right words to say..." I couldn't agree with him more. Thank you for your support. And Congrats to North on a show well done!

Re: Blue Star Mom
Thank you for the kind words.
I can imagine how you feel when you do not win a certain award. My daughter always filled me in with the details after competition.
This year I can simply be an unofficial BSR mom, without any duties. I have a year off, and start over next year with my youngest, when she enters JWN and the BSR herself. I wish I knew how the BSR performed at the Big Orange Classic later on (the same night). I think Trabuco Hills also left to attend the same additional FST at RCC.
