How many Tubas?

Post by Tromb0ne22 » Mon Oct 18, 2010 10:02 pm

I march Tuba in my Marching Band. We march 11 Sousaphones. Just wondering how many tubas your school has and is it a Contra or Sousaphone?

Well, back when I attended Long Beach State, I mean when they actually had a marching band, we marched the Rose Parade in 1977 and we had 21 sousaphones. That was lots of fun!

In 2007 I marched with the Kingsmen Alumni Corps at DCI Semi-Finals in Pasadena and we had 21 GG Contra basses. And that was fun too!

Over the years I have played in many groups, sometimes as the ONLY tuba, but it has ALWAYS been fun!

OMG

Now THAT's a marching band!!!

Bandmaster, I just chatted with one of my DM's who happens to play tuba for his HS. I wanted to let you know that I asked him which he preferred, tuba or sousaphone. His answer was sousaphone, "because you can get more oomph and volume".

Allen H.S. from Allen, TX appears to be marching 25 sousaphones this fall. :)

Ocean View has one sousaphone player this year: me. I also happen to be playing the only working sousaphone the school has (out of four or five).

I've marched a bit. 4 years at Ocean View High School, three on tuba, a season with Impulse Drum and Bugle Corps.
