Best So. Cal. Venue?
Of Vista, Walnut, Rose Bowl and Riverside, which is the best venue to see/hear a DCI show?

Re: Best So. Cal. Venue?
I might be overreading your post, but why are you limiting yourself to these venues?
Oh wait I know....because that's where the shows will be, right???
OK...of the 4....
Vista--Low stadium, older, but good area. Nice field. Pressbox questionable stability--surprised they haven't been made to rebuild it.
Walnut--GREAT venue, great viewing angle, PALATIAL pressbox WITH a sound room for ME....I love it. Does have a track though--but for drum corps, who cares. Right?
Riverside--Better field, but stands are STILL off-set from the field by 10 yards. They were supposed to build new stands on the front side, but that hasn't happened. OK pressbox. OK view angles but small stadium seating capacity.
Rose Bowl--HUGE. HUGE. HUGE. And...in case you haven't been there before...it's HUGE. Not sure based on the crowd that will be there on 7/4 that it would be a great venue, but I DO think it is a great venue for a drum corps show.
MY personal preference, all things considered....I'm partial to Walnut.
HOWEVER....
WHY show promoters aren't using Citrus College, College of the Canyons, or Orange Coast College is beyond me. I would even throw East LA College into that mix too. GREAT venues, every single one of them.

Walnut.
The acoustics at the Rose Bowl are not the greatest.

Nor are the light standards. They're louder than some of the corps!KingMattIV wrote:Walnut.

CSUF would be an amazing venue for a show! Lots of places for all the lot stuff, great space for the souvey booths, and it's right next to the freeway so it's easy to get to.

From your list, I assume you are looking at World shows for this year, Walnut ranks #1 with Vista a distant 2nd, followed by the Rose Bowl in about 10th place and RCC a far distant 150th place behind just about every high school stadium you can show me in Southern California no matter how small the stands are.Chapagne wrote:Of Vista, Walnut, Rose Bowl and Riverside, which is the best venue to see/hear a DCI show?
Ryan, OCC turned into a nightmare for shows. From what I remember, when we stopped running a marching band show there, they started charging way too much for the stadium and OCC would not allow the outside entity to run concessions. OCC would run it and take 100% of the profit. Also, they now have their own swap meet every weeekend that takes up the main parking lot until about 5:30pm or later to get it cleaned up. Mike looked into it last year but, if you remember, Dream/Mystikal held an open class show at ELAC last year.
To the OP, if you want to go to a show that will have 3 classes of corps, (World, Open, All-Age), SoCal Dream is hosting a show, the Dream Invitational, with 14 confirmed corps and possibly 3 more, on Friday July 16th at Eleanor Roosevelt High in Corona. Newer stadium with a decent height box and seating
Corps confirmed:
The Academy - Tempe, AZ
Blue Devils B - Concord, CA
Blue Devils C - Concord, CA
Cascades - Seattle, WA
Gold - Hawthorne, CA
Impulse - Buena Park, CA
Incognito - Orange, CA
Mandarins - Sacramento, CA
Oregon Crusaders - Portland, OR
Pacific Crest - Diamond Bar, CA
Renegades - San Francisco, CA
Santa Clara Vanguard Cadets - Santa Clara, CA
SoCal Dream - Fountain Valley, CA
Velvet Knights - Pasadena, CA

You forgot Santa Barbra, though apparently this year it's even smaller. Nice facilities though, at least of what I saw (from the bus/field).
