SoCal Dream Appoints Co-caption Heads For Percussion

Post by MaestroOfBandX » Fri Nov 20, 2009 12:11 pm

SoCal Dream has appointed two talented individuals to head up our percussion program for the 2010 season. Our percussion co-caption heads are Michael Wachs and Sean Cunningham. Michael will primarily focus on the front ensemble while Sean will be working with the battery.

Corps Director Michael Nash said “These two men will be co-caption heads for our corps this season. I know they will work hard together to create a championship caliber battery and front ensemble.” He continued, “Their experience as performers and instructors will be a great benefit to our entire corps.”

Michael Wachs is a resident composer for “Honey Rock Percussion Publishing”. He also writes and arranges for high school and college programs throughout Southern California.

Some of Michael’s teaching experience includes:

Canyon High School - Percussion Instructor (2009-present)
Valencia High School - Percussion Instructor (1995?1997)
El Camino Real High School - Percussion Instructor (1987?1994)
John Burroughs High School - Percussion Instructor (1994)
Quartz Hill High School - Percussion Instructor (1992?1994)
Burbank Lancers Youth Band - Percussion Instructor (1992, 1994)
California State University, Northridge (CSUN) Matador Band Percussion Instructor (1987-1988, 1990-1992)
Granada Hills High School - Percussion Instructor (1987)

As a performer, Michael has been with a number of quality programs including:

CSUN Marching Band (1986?1988, 1990?1992)
CSUN Winter Drum Line (1990)
Freelancers Drum & Bugle Corps (1988)
United Way Band - Rose Parade (1987)

Sean Cunningham got his start in Drum and Bugle Corps over twenty years ago, marching with the Anaheim Velvet Knights and most recently with the San Francisco Renegades. His teaching experience has taken him across the country and has included programs such as:

Casa Grande High School - BOA Finalist/WGI Finalist/WGAZ Finalist
Kingman High School - ABODA Div II Champions
Momentum - WGI World Class Finalist
El Dorado High School - BOA Finalist

Sean has also served as a Field Percussion Clinician for the Percussive Arts Society Championships, various BOA and ABODA championship caliber high school programs and Division I and II Drum and Bugle Corps throughout the years. His experience also includes being an Adjudicator for ABODA, Fiesta Bowl National Pageant of Bands and the Percussive Arts Society.

Sean's Teaching Methodologies have proven to develop championship caliber drumlines and percussion ensembles that have stood the tests at the highest levels of competition."

When asked about joining the staff of SoCal Dream, he said “I look forward to the opportunity to work with the corps and doing my part to bring SoCal Dream to the top of the class in competition. Let’s get started and rock this thing!”
