Designer and Alumnus Kenny Isidoro connects tradition with innovative edge

Simple, effective, recognizable, and timeless.

These are the words used by graphic designer and Cadet Alumnus Kenny Isidoro when he describes the dynamic new logo that will represent the corps for years to come. His design was selected among more than 40 submissions during the Cadets Logo Contest held this fall.

Inspired by the corps’ 75-year tale and the legendary West Point-styled uniform, Isidoro’s design came easily to the marketing director for a Providence-based architecture firm. It features crisp, clean lines and a bold emblem, artistically packaged to represent the Cadets, a corps always well-regarded within the activity for their rich history and never-failing pursuit to innovate and inspire.

“Isidoro's design is terrific. It's an extremely well thought-out, well crafted mark,” said California-based Marketing Consultant Jimmy Verrett. “Designing simply is extremely difficult; Isidoro nailed it.”

The corps is proud to release the new logo that reflects much of what being a Cadet means – disciplined, fast, bold, pushing boundaries – and it comes just one week prior to Audition/Experience Camp on Nov. 20-22nd at Woodstown High School in Woodstown, N.J. You might ask: “Why not stick with Holy Name?”

Some time before the Cadets 75th Anniversary season began; Director George Hopkins had it in the back of his mind that the legendary Maroon and Gold would return to its founding name for that very special summer.

To return as the Holy Name Cadets paid homage to the thousands of alumni who marched in the corps the last three quarters of a century, Hopkins said. It was a special and distinctive name, and one to be used in the most highly regarded of occasions.

But the change did bring out some puzzled looks; he admits, particularly among more casual fans that were unaware that the Cadets began their journey as the Holy Name Cadets, a drum and fife corps under the management of a Catholic church in Garfield, N.J. Returning to their name for the 2010 season, the Cadets have done so in a creative and dynamic way, by retiring the circa 2004 ‘running man’ logo and today unveiling a fantastic new design submitted during the Cadets Logo Contest.

Special thanks go out to all those who submitted their creative work. We were taken aback with the interest and level of talent, said Hopkins.

Hmmm...how can I get off-season press every year? I know! We'll change the name or logo of the corps EVERY FREAKIN' WINTER! Brilliant!

I am sure we will see this logo design in some marching formation on the field this upcoming summer.
