Why Soccer is better than Football

Post by Hostrauser » Mon Feb 09, 2009 11:04 am

I never thought I'd say this, but I found a reason why European "futbol" is better than "football": they don't penalize celebrations.

Possibly the most awesome scoring celebration ever:

Most of the world would tell you that Futbol (they will also get mad if you call it Soccer) is way better than American Football, without the celebration differences. For me though, I recognize Futbol as an amazingly athletic and high degree of difficulty sport, but just can't get into watching or playing it. And I'm pretty much obsessed with American Football....soo yeah.

I played soccer from when I was about 4 until my junior year of high school. I'm also an avid follower of the sport from the English Premier League to the World Cup to MLS (and pretty soon WPS). I've seen better celebrations than that one, but it is good.

I've never understood the draw of basketball (especially the NBA), and even with playing in pep band I tend to get really bored, so to each their own.

EDIT: homophone fix.

Well, when typical soccer matches are 1-0, no wonder why the celebrations are great. Goals are rare. So when they happen, they go crazy.

I think Hockey has to be one of the most demanding sports over soccer.

Soccer (this is the U.S., so that's what it is) really improved for me when they put a stop to all the ridiculous faking-of-injuries. I couldn't stand watching it back then.
