NCAA Basketball Tourney Pick 'Em 2009
Hello all,
I decided to make a group for us WOPers out there who follow the tournament closely and like to fill out brackets. All you need is a yahoo ID (it's free to register). Just click on the Fantasy Sports Tab, and find the Tourney Pick 'Em game.
League ID: 2702
Password: wop
Or, pm me your e-mail address, and I can invite you myself. You don't have to make your bracket name the same as on WOP, but leave a message either here or on the league board so we can tell who's who.
If you don't know what this is, but it sounds interesting, just leave a post and hopefully I can answer your question. If we can get enough membership we will discuss awarding bonus points for upset picks and whatnot. Otherwise I will just use Yahoo's default scoring methods. Tell your friends and family, too! Anyone is welcome, I would like to get as many people as possible. 25 days to tipoff!

Wow, i thought we had some sports fans on here...?
Re: NCAA Basketball Tourney Pick 'Em 2009
I very much enjoy following the tournament, but...
I don't think about it much until closer. I realize this doesn't give me much chance of winning but, what can I say, I have other things on my mind.25 days to tipoff!

Yeah, I might join a March Madness pick 'em tourney once it's March.

North Carolina will be the Champs.

Could be, but I just don't think they'll do it. In fact, I expect we'll see a couple of surprising ACC flame-outs in the first two rounds. North Carolina, Duke, Clemson, Wake Forest... I can see any of them making the Final Four and I can see any of them losing in the first two rounds.crfrey71 wrote:North Carolina will be the Champs.
Oklahoma was looking strong until Blake Griffin got hurt. Memphis has another bloated record due to a (comparably) easy schedule. Pre-season trendy pick UCLA can't play defense.
Of course, anyone from the Big East will be strong, that division is such a meat-grinder. I like Pittsburgh's chances more than UConn's, though. Dark Horse: Villanova.

Addendum: that Syracuse-UConn game last night was one of the Top 10 college basketball games of all time. Anyone else see it?

Wow, I was about ready to delete it too. If nobody else joins, i'll just invite you guys to another league I'm in. Cuse vs. UConn was amazing. Got home around the 3rd overtime and didn't get up from the TV until the end. Will be interesting to see if the Orange have anything left in the tank. Maybe they start the walk-ons?

I joined, but as I don't really follow, I'll let the statistician inside me take over.
I will be flipping a quarter to determine the outcome of each encounter.
Some of my picks are really wild
Oh, and if I beat any of you... nothing will happen.

Re: NCAA Basketball Tourney Pick 'Em 2009
I am hereby officially boycotting the entire tournament after the complete screw-job the selection committee gave to the mid-major teams. San Diego State, St. Mary's and Creighton ALL deserve to be in the tournament over Arizona, a 13-loss team with a losing conference record. Oh, but they're a "name" school from a BCS conference. Michigan, Wisconsin don't deserve to be in, the Big-10 was not that good this season. Maryland and Boston College don't deserve to be in just because they're from a great conference: they're mediocre teams.
LEFT OUT:
34. San Diego State (highest RPI not to make the tournament)
40. Creighton
46. UAB
47. St. Mary's
48. Illinois State
49. Niagara
GOT IN (AT-LARGE BIDS):
41. Texas
42. Minnesota
44. Michigan
45. Wisconsin
55. Maryland
59. Boston College
62. Arizona (lowest RPI to get At-Large Bid)
Gee, what to all those members of the second list have in common? Besides having a lower RPI than San Diego State and Creighton? That's right: "name" schools from BCS conferences.
Boston College has a lower RPI than SDSU (59 to 34), MORE losses (11 to 9), and a WEAKER strength of schedule (59 to 40). But since the committee apparently judges 90% on NAME and only 10% on accomplishments...
Louisville, No. 1 Seed, 28-5... lost to UNLV, who SDSU beat THREE TIMES.
Etc.
Nope, I'm boycotting the tournament.
