Playing easy beats clean is a lot funner than playing hard beats dirty. Its also more impressive.

Re: NCBA WINTERCOMP 08-09
I know. I just hope the new people practice so that we don't have to water it down. I'd rather play it clean how it is written cause I'm playing 3'rd bass and if music is watered down to all unisons it's not as much fun.Steven wrote:Bacon wrote: It'll be fun though. Well if you water a bass book to all unisons then ok, I wouldnt enjoy it clean, and I dont think it would be clean either.

If we have 25 in novice lets hope we end the season with more than 5 in open like last year. 7 at the moment? Who am I missing. I think all these groups are going to finals too.

These groups are on the Antioch and Wilcox schedules!
That makes 24 with your list for Novice Percussion.
Inspiring a student to be a great musician requires personal music awareness and the willingness to accept your own strengths and weaknesses.
Re: NCBA WINTERCOMP 08-09
Well, my group is a start up. First time ever with a winter line. And on a good year we barely have a fall or spring one. Many of these groups have had winter lines for a while and that confuses me. Shouldn't they be at least one division higher?

Re: NCBA WINTERCOMP 08-09
I am familiar with the written description. The way I was interpreting it was that if a school has had a line for some time, the kids would have a moderate level of experience. For example in Winterguard, we have a really young group this year. We had a lot of seniors last year. But, when we signed up we stayed in Scholastic because of the experience of the few returning and the experience the new ones had on the street in the fall. As well we have an instructor with the talent, experience and ability to bring them to that level. So I guess I was assuming that this may be the case for some of the lines who have done this for a while but are still in Novice. Maybe the same concepts don't apply to percussion. I am new to this side of the activity.

I know that groups will often start in Novice and wait for the judges to bump them up.

Re: NCBA WINTERCOMP 08-09
American has been in Intermediate and Advanced before, last year we got a ton of freshman and most of the seniors graduated so for 2008 they just did standing. Now that the Frosh are older ( soph, now ) we decided to go back into Novice, instead of jumping into a higher category. Most of our winter percussion involve members of the band who have never played percussion before and thats how it started my senior year spring of '03... but we had dedicated members ( sometimes more so then the original percussionists) so thats where we stand.. most of the fall line does NOT do WP either for acedemic reasons ( have to have a 2.0 gpa or higher) or because they want to do sports or whatever, so we get the band members who are interested in trying something new. This year for example we have 18 kids.. of the 18 only a few were from the drum line or even the front ensemble... lets see... approx 5-7 were in perc. this fall.
