As far as show goes, your staff should write it and not pay a outside person $3000.00 to write it. The first year I brought the Freelancers out, no staff member got paid more than $200.00 a month and I didn't take any money. We did it for the fun of the activity and to bring the Freelancers back in some way. The only thing I see different from NCBA and WGI is show design. Put some thought into them and make sure there is plenty of G.E. written. Always remember, it is and will always be about the drumming. It doesn't matter how many props you have, play cool licks and play them clean.

watch chawctohachee (sp?) 04 i believe...wgi..... snares were soooo dirty....yet they got second or third? in SW...but GE was up the wazoo...money=the GE

Good Show design = GE, but does not = $$$. Good show design can be done on a shoe string budget, but it has to be good! How many lines have you seen spend so much money on props and what not, but their show design fell really flat?

As for classifications, I figure that is still up in the air. Our percussion and guard have no idea what class they will be in, so we are designing for the class we THINK we will be in. That's the best anyone can do when you don't have current information.

When I was in high school, my music program mos def did not have funds to get us new uniforms, new drums, new anything... we didn't even pay our instructor much (good thing he was an alum). our director did all the repairs on our broke down instruments. We made stands for the pit out of pvc piping. LOL... well I guess that did take some money, but not much.
I know it may not make much of a difference in how the world of drumline competitions are now, but I think if you got the chops, you could possibly make it up there, performing as well as those folks with the money.

El Dorado is doing "Fight or Flight" from msconcepts... And Union Mine has a winterline now, I helped out there for a little but don't anymore. Their show is "The Virus" from msconcepts. And for Sac State.... I have no idea what our show is called. It'll be fun though.
