F-18 Plane Crash in San Diego

Post by horns2thebachs » Mon Dec 08, 2008 1:00 pm

I'm watching CNN right now. An F-18 fighter plane went down in University City near the UTC area.

Plane hit about 500 yards from University City High School off Genesee. In fact, the pilot (who ejected) landed on UCHS's baseball field. It's only a couple of miles from my work; you could see the smoke rising from our south-facing offices. One of our managers lives on Huggins St. and the plane hit literally only 12-15 houses away from hers.

Crazy stuff. When you use an ejection seat, you come out 1 or 2 inches shorter from the force of the launch.

Well that explains why I am only 5'10" now. Please be assured that that pilot is well-bruised, and I hope he is well. 8-)

That is correct. To add on to that, once you punch out a certain amount of times, not sure how many, they do not allow you to be a pilot anymore because you don't meet the height requirements any more. No joke, my uncle used to be in the Navy, worked on the planes as a mechanic, he told me about this himself.
