Santa Clara Vanguard
SCV's website wrote:BALLET FOR MARTHA - Vanguard Summer Program - 2009
October 17, 2008
Born of a 1942 commissioned dance to premiere at the Library of Congress, 'Ballet for Martha' - Aaron Copland's composition for his friend and contemporary Martha Graham, will title the Santa Clara Vanguard summer program in 2009. Drawing upon the original influence of the American spirit, youth, optimism and hope, Copland expanded the Pulitzer Prize-winning ballet score a decade later, borrowing the title Graham used for her new dance, Appalachian Spring.

Santa Clara Vanguard Cadets
SCV's website wrote:Continuing the tradition of their vanguard namesake, Vanguard Cadets will once again explore new territory with their 2009 production, "Love."
While the repertoire is still being finalized, most, if not all of the music will be recognizable to marching pageantry fans, supported by lush and popular melodies, unexpected textures and big visual effects.
"This year the design team wanted to explore a universal theme and we couldn't think of anything more thematically universal than love, the most powerful and transforming human emotion," says corps director Rob Ripley. "The show is being constructed not only to challenge our membership in new ways both in terms of music and movement but thoroughly entertain the audience in ways they expect and hopefully in unanticipated ways as well."
And with a show titled "Love", can we expect to see red back in the Vanguard Cadets color palette?
"Maybe," says Ripley. "Or maybe not. Come to the first show to check us out."

Man, where is
Song For America? I did it with my youth band back in 1994 and it kicks. Eight different time meters makes it lots of fun!
