Re: NFL Football Pool Game
Well so much for the Niner's having another star quarterback from Utah. Hopes we're already dwindling for the 1st overall draft pick in 2004, Alex Smith recently lost his starting position to journeyman QB J.T. O'Sullivan. He has now been placed on injured reserve with a broken bone in his shoulder, likely ending his season (remember he was out most of last season with an injury as well). Next year Smith's five year contract balloons to almost 10 million dollars a year. Obviously the niner's won't pay that much to a back-up quarterback, so Smith will likely be released from his contract.

No "likely" about it. Football's IR isn't like Baseball's DL: once you're put on Injured Reserve, you can't come off it until next season. The Aceman wrote:He has now been placed on injured reserve with a broken bone in his shoulder, likely ending his season.
Alex Smith will never wear a 49ers uniform again.

Re: NFL Football Pool Game
Anyone know what happens if Houston gets flattened by Ike? Does the game move elsewhere? I know the game was moved to Monday, but what happens if there is no power, no people to watch or man concessions and run the stadium? Just curious.

Re: NFL Football Pool Game
Stadium would likely have some generators of its own, and since Houston is not being evacuated I'm sure there will still be people left to go to work.fieldshowqueen wrote:Anyone know what happens if Houston gets flattened by Ike? But, assuming a catastrophic event with a high death toll (like Katrina), I would assume the game would be postponed on a day-by-day basis (pushing back each teams' next game a day or two, also) or perhaps even outright canceled, since there are no gaps in the schedule where the game can be made up. If that were the case, I would think they would give each team a "tie" in the standings.
