You Olympic Event
So which events are you going to TiVo?
I always watch:
Womens' and Men's Gymnastics
Swimming
Diving
Equestrian
It's a little weird. 1/4 finals for DCI are in the theatres the day of opening ceremonies... hopefully I can catch some of it. The Austrailia one was off the hook!

I am NOT too old for this!
I'd rather be Dreaming... in a tree.

I like the weird stuff like shooting, equestrian, archery, fencing, rowing, etc. but coverage of those are almost nil. I'll be plotting my taping strategy this afternoon. One thing different this time around is I'll be in Vegas for 3 days in the middle of the Olympics! I guess I'll need to pop over to the Sports Book and make a few bets. (For those of you who are youngin's ... gambling is a vice ... DO NOT follow my example.)

I usually keep up with Basketball (which it seems we should dominate this year, of course the Jazz are the only team with TWO Olympians this year
I also keep up with gymnastics, swimming, diving, track and field events, volleyball, tennis, boxing, and of course the triathlon.

Go read "Ishmael" a novel by Daniel Quinn. It will literally change your life.

Hey! Don't attack the ping pong. Olympic ping pong is one of the few I'll watch. I don't usually watch the Olympics, though. I like watching the less common ones, though. The other ones always seem to be crammed down our throats everywhere we go. Occasionally I watch Mountain biking, Fencing, Equestrian, Handball, Shooting, Table Tennis, Tennis, Tae kwon doe... but I'm not a regular watcher.
The o_O emoticon gives me the heebee jeebees.

YEAH! It's China ... we HAVE to have ping pong! (Boy there's a sterotype begging an argument.)senza cervello wrote:Hey! Don't attack the ping pong. Olympic ping pong is one of the few I'll watch. Which brings up a question ... Why are Judo and Tae Kwon Do an Olympic Sport but other martial arts (like Karate for example) aren't? I know the process for getting something considered, but was just wondering why THESE two and not two others. Are they the basis for all other martial arts?
Consider these sports that aren't played at the Olympics anymore:
Cricket
Croquet
Golf
Jeu de paume
Lacrosse
Pelote basque
Polo
Power boating
Rackets
Rink-hockey
Roque
Rugby
Tug of war
Water skiing
Personally I think we should add Caber Tossing and Bungee Jumping to the list! Pillow Fighting might be a fun one too.

I personally am a bigger fan of the winter olympics just because I like hockey, luge, and all those other events that require snow and ice.
However, I do like to watch the swimming and diving, as well as some of the more unique events. My wife loves to watch the gymnastics so I end up watching them with her too.

Considering only two countries in the world play the game, you're right about that. The Aceman wrote:I think we should add "Gridiron" as an Olympic sport, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.
Baseball and softball are getting dumped after this Olympics as well. Just not enough places in the world where it is played.
Xenophobes...your thoughts?
