NFL Football Pool Game

Post by Marianne » Fri Jul 25, 2008 5:27 pm

Hi Football Fans!

Hey, some of you might remember last season when Hostrouser hosted the 2007 FBS Bowls Pool here on WOP (and on Sound Machine). I played the game over on SM.

What you may not realize is, he fashioned the game a bit after a pool I've been running for the NFL season for 3 years. We are now going into our 4th year on Sound Machine. And this year, after seeing the success of the college pool last year over here, I thought I'd extend the offer to run the game over here as well.

Your Moderators Hostrouser and TheAceman have played the game over on Sound Machine, and should be able to tell you what its like.

If you'd like to see how the game was run last year, HERE is a link to last year's game on SM. Page 1 describes the game in detail, and if you browse a few pages in, you'll see how players place their picks, and how the game is scored throughout the season.

I'd like to have a minimum of 5 people from this site playing to make it worth my while to add this board to the game. Please let me know if you are interested by posting so in this thread. And please don't hesitate to ask questions if you have any! Thanks!

I'm in as well, and I recommend everyone else join in to, it's fun and doesn't take up too much of your precious time. Hopefully everyone who played last year will do so again, and new people will join.

And GO 49ers!!! (Yes, I will be putting the Niners banner back in my sig. soon enough.)

Marianne I'll be playing on both sites.

Seriously, and unfortunately I don't think it's due to a lack of interest in the game. But, rather, a drastic reduction in the traffic to this site over the last copule months. :( Where are our recruitment efforts?

Well, being new to the board this time around (I registered long time ago but then let it lapse), I don't really know the people here.

Would it be too much to ask of you to help me recruit for the game, perhaps PM'ing folks you think might be interested and such? I do plan on doing the same on the other boards, and will here too if needed. I just thought folks might be more receptive to an invite to the game from someone they know on the board.

I'll drop by in another day or two to explain the game in better detail. I'm a bit busy setting it up on the other sites, as well as getting ready to host a similar game for the Beijing Olympics on one site.

I'm not panicking too much yet. The Pre-Season doesn't start for over another week. And a lot of people prefer to only play the Regular Season anyway.

ETA: cool, we're up to 4 now. 5 if you count myself. But it would be nice to have 5 or more besides me to get it going.

I'll likely do the Pre-Season no matter what. Then we can decide if we want to continue it into the Regular Season (based on interest), once that time comes.

OK, I should give a brief overview of the game for anyone contemplating playing.....

The game is fashioned after the basic Office Pool you see at work, where you pick the winning team of each game played that week. You get a certain amount of points based on how many games you guessed correctly, as well as two Bonus Questions.

Each week, I post a "Game Open" announcement in this thread. You make your picks by posting said picks in the thread for that week. Scoring is based on the percentage of points you earned, in comparison to the amount of points available to be earned that week (this is based on the number of games played in a given week).

Your score for the week is then averaged to scores from other weeks to get your Season Average ranking.

I'm in for regular season I hope, but pre-season is looking really "iffy" here. Sorry.
