The only one that's not puke-tastic is the Zap-X, and that's $60,000 and won't be available until (at least) 2010.

You know, my 7th grade science teacher taught us a great word for a popular form of green transportation: bi-pedular locomotion.

Yeah..um...no. These things are just distractions. If someone REALLY comes up with something useful, the free market will do the rest.

I use public transportation, a bike, or go on foot. I try to live life without the need of a car. Kinda why I like SB!

That Alias is pretty dang cool...unfortunately, as is the case with most of the "alternatives" you don't pay a lot for gas...BUT YOU SURE PAY ALOT FOR THE PRODUCT!!!

Either way--you're screwed.

Not to mention you can only go 25 miles before having to recharge.

Not to mention that the battery is very enviornmentally unfriendly.

At least one study has shown the a prius is just as bad for the enviornment as an suv because of the damage caused by making and disposing of the battery.

See, what I'm extremely surprised about is that no one has talked about the car from Aptera.

http://www.aptera.com/

They're a private company based in Carlsbad, CA, and this car that they designed, a gas/electric hybrid, gets about 300 mpg. They also have a full electric that gets about 120 miles on a charge.

Supposedly they're backordered about 500 models already, and they only cost 30,000.

It's one of the most interesting concept hybrids I've seen so far. I think no one's talking about it, though, because they haven't even begun production yet.

Plus, with apologies to Henry Ford, you can have any color you want, as long as it's white.

I think the Chevy Volt will be your best bet anytime in the foreseeable future for an electric car.

Unfortunately, the Chevy Volt doesn't really satisfy the needs of many people in areas where people have to drive hours to get to work. While it's a nice idea and a good stepping stone, it's not going to spark a revolution until some serious advancement in battery technology has taken place.

And that Aptera car... Watching videos of that makes me think
"Meet George Jetson!"
