Interview of the Month:

This month I interviewed ZJH

Gender?
Male

Age?
18

How did you first find WOP?
I can't remember exactly, but I do remember it being my sophomore year in high school. Ben (guardthepiccolo, then pantherbandfreak) said he saw me and my band playing "Unter der admirals flagge" that year and said he was excited, haha.

Why did you sign up?
WOP seemed to be friendly and a good source of pageantry information, and it has proved that many times over.

What have been the ups and downs of your stay on the WOP boards?
Most of my experiences have been positive. The downs would probably be those ridiculous arguments about what's wrong with each circuit.

What is your favorite board to post on WOP?
I tend to post on the Marching Band, Concert Band, Student Leadership, and Off-Topic. I've been pretty inactive lately, but I like posting in the Student Leadership and Marching forums the most.

How long have you been posting on WOP?
Probably a good 4 years now. Time sure flies!

What is your favorite food?
Pho. Mmmmmm, pho.

What is your earliest memory?
I think I was a few months old, and my grandma was feeding me noodles, and I'd slurp it up while they just died of laughter.

What is your favorite movie?
Huo Yuanjia (Fearless) starring Jet Li. Great movie with a good balance of action, philosophy, and nationalism.

What is your favorite TV show?
Right now, it's a historical Korean drama called Dae Jo Yeong, a drama about the life of Korea's first real emperor who united the country from several warring states. Great show, but very very long.

What kind of music do you like to listen to?
I really listen to anything. A majority of my library consists of classical (mostly Romantic Era stuff), metal (Slayer, Symphony X, Gamma Ray, Iced Earth, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Testament, etc.), and Asian R&B/Pop (Jay Chou, Park Hyo Shin, Kim Bum Soo, etc.). Pretty much, just throw it at me and I'll listen to it. Might not like it, but I'll listen to it.

Favorite artist/band?
At the moment, the Berliner Philharmoniker. I've been binging on their videos and recordings for a good few weeks. Herbert von Karajan, Claudio Abbado, Seiji Ozawa, love it.

Favorite animal?
Chickens, because they're delicious.

Favorite colour?
Black.

Hobby?
Spinning mace, competing in the Scottish Games, playing the guitar, singing, hanging out with friends.

Book?
Inferno by Dante Alighieri

Author?
Probably Gabriel García Márquez.

Actor?
Choi Su-Jong (he plays Dae Jo Yeong).

Actress?
Ha Ji-Won. She's so fine.

Cartoon character?
Uncle Ruckus from The Boondocks. Personally, I think his role as the self-hating black man is hilarious.

Country you wish to visit the most?
South Korea (if you can't tell already from the music and the TV, haha).

Most influential person in your life?
It'd be a tie between both of my parents. They've worked really hard to get to where they are now, and they're still great people.

What can’t you live without?
Well, the obvious answer would be music. The not-so-obvious answer: pistachios.

Biggest achievement?
In my opinion, working hard enough to get enough scholarships to pay for most of my college year thus far. My parents haven't had to shell out a penny for tuition or living expenses yet (other than food), so I'm really proud of that.

Greatest ambition?
Becoming the best pediatrician there can be and making sure kids are healthy and staying out of trouble.

Biggest wish?
Health and happiness for my family and friends.

Can you dance?
I wouldn't call it dancing, no. ;p

Cook?
I'm workin' on it.

Write with both hands?
Yes, just not very well at all with the left one. =]

Whistle?
One tone. lol

Speak a different language?
Cantonese, Spanish, and working on Mandarin. Also trying to pick up on Korean with an audiotape.

The shoes you wore today?
Converse slip-ons.

Eye colour?
Brown.

Hair colour?
Black/dark brown.

Height?
5'2" (Yeah, I'm a shorty.)

Your perfect pizza?
Cheese, pepperoni, bell peppers, sausage, bacon, mushrooms, and extra crispy crust. Mmmmm.

Your most overused phrase on instant messenger?
"Haha" or "fantastic"

Your bedtime?
Anywhere between 10 PM - 2 AM.

Pepsi or Coke?
Pepsi. Crisper.

Do you want to get married?
Definitely.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
A pediatrician and a World Champion Drum Major.

Single?
Very.

In the past month have you gone on a date?
Yeah.

In the past month have you gone to a mall?
No sir.

In the past month have you been on stage?
Sort of. It was just a mini-performance for a Chinese New Year celebration.

In the past month have you eaten sushi?
Nope.

In the past month have you stolen anything?
Most certainly not.

In the past week have you attended church (or something equivalent)?
Nope.

Do you have an iPod or other mp3 player?
Yes, an iPod Video 30 GB. Love that thing to death.

Number of CDs you own?
I think the last time I counted, probably 200+.

Morning or evening?
I'm definitely an evening person.

Summer or Winter?
Summer.

Spring or Fall?
Spring.

Favourite Number?
9

Type of car you own?
'98 Toyota Avalon (soon to be mine, anyhow)

Dream car?
A Rolls-Royce. Mmmmmmm.

Do you work?
Not at the moment, no.

Chocolate or vanilla ice cream?
Chocolate by a landslide.

Favourite memory of high school?
I loved it all for the most part. I guess my favourite was when the band won Concert Sweeps at the Lodi Grape Bowl Classic, and I had made a bet with them at the beginning of the season that if they could win sweeps at any event this year, I'd let them shave me bald. Low and behold, they did, and I was rather ambivalent at the time. But I look back on it now and smile.

Favourite memory of college?
So far, just being around friends and having a good time.

Favourite teacher?
HS band director Mr. Mackey. He's like a really good friend.

Favourite joke?
I don't any joke I know is WOP appropriate, haha.

Favorite word?
"Fantastic"

Weirdest place you’ve been?
Probably Thailand.

Weirdest thing you’ve eaten?
Snake, I guess. Lots of bones.

Favourite vacation you have ever been on?
China, this past winter with my mom and sister.

Any shoutouts?
"I'd like give a shout to Ray-Ray, and Big Steve..."

Random thought?
"I love beef stew!" Haha, The Benchwarmers.

Anything else you would like to say?
"I'd just like to say 'thank-you'! Say 'no' to meth!"

Not to be a pooh doh ... but I crossed a milestone ...
I'm now a drum major (again) ... considering I WAS one once before Dave changed the post count demoting me, I would guess it's not really that big of a deal.
:)
Oh, and kudos to whoever voted me "sig of the month".

i just realized you do Standard Deviation....do you have a program or anything that does it for you or what because i'm in Alg. 2 and we just learned about that a while ago but man is that time consuming...especially with numbers like these haha. Just wondering how you do it is all..

On a side note congrats to all the people who got nominated and won.

You can use excel or a graphing calculator for that.

I have a graphing calculator but I don't believe I can do that. I still have many mysteries on it but whatever. If you can do it on excel I believe that haha. But thanks for that. :)

On the graphing calculator, you can create a list of your information, e.g., L1=1,2,3,4,5,6,7

After entering all your data into the list, select "1-Var Stats" (under [stat][->][1])

A list of stats shows up. sigma x (the fifth one from the top) is standard deviation.

oh, that's using a TI calculator.

Thank you so much. That helped out a lot. Too bad I didn't find this out when I had the test on it haha. It's ok though I had to show my work or else no credit but now there's a faster way haha.

I don't use either for that. That's because I don't ever need to know the standard deviation of anything.
Go read "Ishmael" a novel by Daniel Quinn. It will literally change your life.

If it's a TI-83 or 84 it does SOOO much more than you would expect. (Unless you already know most of them)... I've been using them for 5+ years and am by no means an expert but if you have any question feel free to ask.... I learned some REALLY nifty things after using it for like 4 years and they make my life much easier when it comes to math.

Anymore questions, go ahead and ask (in a new topic, this is pretty off topic).

Pretty much anything in stats can be used on it. Calc wise, I had to use third party programs.

Really? For calc 1 and 2 it worked fine for me. Calc 3 was a different story

I used to write my own programs on my calculator. Program in the equations, run it, put in the variables, tadah, there's the answer, haha!!

Shhhh, don't tell..... :shh:
