Hostrauser's Trivia Contest #10 - March, 2008
Once again, everyone is welcome to play, and you may join at any time.
Please send all answers in PMs.
SCORING:
1. A reminder: EVERY correct answer gets points. It's really worthwhile to answer every question.
2. Each question will be worth up to 50 points (the last 4-5 questions are likely to be doubled). The first to answer correctly will get all 50 points, the second person will get 40 points, and the third person will get 30 points. All other correct answers will get 25 points. There will be no points deducted for wrong answers.
FORMAT:
1. All answers must be submitted through PM. Answers posted to the thread will not receive credit.
2. You may answer in PM as many times as you like, but only your last answer will count (right or wrong). If you want to take a wild stab at it in hopes of getting in first, go ahead. You can correct it later if you choose.
3. Hedged answers will not receive credit. You can ask for clarification in this thread or in PMs (I may or may not answer), but other than that, you'll just have to take your best guess.
THE ROUND #10 CATEGORIES ARE...
NAME THAT WORLD CAPITAL
NAME THAT BODY OF WATER
NAME THAT AMERICAN UNIVERSITY
Further details...
Should be pretty self explanatory. The World Capital category will only feature national capital, not regional ones. The Body of Water category might feature oceans, bays, rivers, lakes or waterfalls. The Universities will all be "Major" four-year universities.
Each category will have eight pictures, for 24 total.
Round #10 will begin on Saturday, March 1st.

If anyone can help me with this, I have a teacher running a similar competition, only except the first person to answer gets a point. It's been on a while and so I don't feel so guilty about asking for help.
He gave us this picture
no hint.
all he said was that he would be completely amazed if anyone answered correctly.[/url]

Without hints, that's tough.senza cervello wrote:If anyone can help me with this, I have a teacher running a similar competition, only except the first person to answer gets a point. It's been on a while and so I don't feel so guilty about asking for help.

Well, it's coastline somewhere in America.
Not Hawaii. Not tropical enough.
Not Alaska, Washington or Oregon. Flora is all wrong.
Could be California.
Not a gulf coast state (Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida). Those are too flat and dune-y at the water's-edge, with fewer trees.
Hill in the background looks too big to be Florida, Georgia or South Carolina's Atlantic Coast. And I wouldn't expect palm trees to survive much north of that.
I'll go with somewhere on the California coast. Maybe Ventura County somewhere. The lack of mountains in the picture background bothers me, though. Or maybe it's an ex-pat enclave somewhere down in Baja. There's really nothing in the picture descriptive enough to guess without any hints.

It looks like a State Park in OC that has two words in the name that both start with the same letter.senza cervello wrote:If anyone can help me with this, I have a teacher running a similar competition, only except the first person to answer gets a point.
