OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE--"The Dream is Alive!"

Post by Ryan H. Turner » Thu Oct 02, 2003 11:23 pm

"THE DREAM IS ALIVE!!"
October 2, 2003—Los Angeles, California

The senior drum and bugle corps known as SoCal Dream has officially changed its name and has established its own non-profit status, it was announced today. Dream Association of California will be the new non-profit parent organization of the new Dream Drum and Bugle Corps, based in Los Angeles, California. This change in direction for the organization comes at a critical junction in the development of this 3-year-old corps, as it is busily preparing for their trip to the Drum Corps Associates Championships in September of 2004. The original organization, SoCal Dream, was actually developed as another entertainment and support vehicle for the Impulse Youth Arts Organization (IYAO). During its initial formation, it was agreed and understood that once SoCal Dream became more than “just a dream” and was ready for national competition, they would “break away” from IYAO and form their own organization. Dream Drum and Bugle Corps and the Dream Association of California applauds and thanks the IYAO and Executive Director Dr. J. David Meade for their support, assistance, and most of all, the success with their junior corps, Impulse. Dream will operate underneath its own mission statement, by-laws, and organizational structure that is currently being established as part of the non-profit incorporation of Dream Association of California, but will continue to maintain and enjoy a positive and rewarding relationship with IYAO.

Dream is a non-profit 501c3 organization dedicated to bringing together individuals with diverse backgrounds and interests with a desire to develop and educate the community in the art of "Field Performance Theater" through discipline, teamwork, and the pursuit of competitive performance excellence. Our organization provides a structure for those who want to perform in a drum corps environment while giving back to their community. The Dream Association of California believes that as an organization we can make contributions through a group effort, and with dedication and hard work, this goal will be achieved. Dream will remain a member of the Drum Corps International—Pacific Division, and compete in the senior class. In addition to the “behind the scenes” administrative work that is being accomplished daily, the creative talents that make up the “design team” is hard at work preparing a show that will sure to delight and entertain drum corps fans across the country.

More official press releases are planned for the near future, announcing board, staff and caption head assignments, as well as introducing this year’s production. Stay tuned!!
