^ Funny you mentioned that. When I played New World Symphony I had to bring a book. It got so bad that I stopped playing tuba for that piece and switched to my bassoon. :)

I don't know why Dvorak did that with the New World Symphony. If you played other works of his, they really are exciting. Symphony No. 8 and the Carnival Overture are two good examples. Don't quit playing the instrument you love just because one world-class composer didn't know what to do with it for a short spell.

No, no, no. I play both tuba and bassoon fluently, and have been for the better part of a decade. I love being able to play on the bottom of the band with both a brass and a woodwind instrument.

That time I was playing in a community orchestra. There was another tubist there so I simply walked over to the bassoon section and sat down.

I remember The Red Balloon being REALLY boring. That and American Patrol; we had to play with the middle and elementary schools...it was TORTURE.
Music is the soul that seeks to fly freely and untamed; oft' it is not disturbed, nor should it be.

"Old Churches"

I played it in an honor band a couple times and wanted to sleep every time! unless you were a percussionist you got to hit pots and pans.
