Actually it's the SECOND time ever (they came out in 1981, also). Which is odd, because I would've SWORN they came out here in the late 80s, like 1989. Maybe that's Star of Indiana I'm thinking of.

But yeah, I'm all over it. I'll be at one of the NorCal shows.

I do remember hearing of Star coming out, but don't remember when. Crossmen have been out as well (either '81 or '83, sumpthin' like dat).

Maybe this will be one of those years where we also get the Troopers and Blue Knights. Add Seattle Cascades, Mandarins and Pacific Crest into the mix and we could have some kick butt shows!!!!!

They were here in 1981

Post by Bandmaster » Tue Nov 19, 2002 8:45 pm

Yep, I remember watching them perform Sparticus at several shows back then. The Riverside Show held at Ramona High School that year and the Odyssey Classic at Cerritos JC come to mind. I still have a copy of the little program they handed out at each performance to explain their show.

Its nice to see that they will make it out here again, finally. What would happen if BD and SCV only went east once every 22 years? I believe that it was 1979 when the Crossmen came out and Star in 1988 or 1989.

It was '89 and '88 when Star of Indiana came to California. :)

I remember the year Cadets came out west to the San Diego show in '01. It was interesting cuz it was like:

"On the field.....The Blue Devils!" *crowd cheers*

"On the field.....The Santa Clara Vangaurd!" *crowd cheers*

"On the field.....The Cadets!" *DEAD SILENCE.....chirp chirp chirp*

I was surprised also cuz I thought people would be excited that the Cadets came out west. At that show I was seated at the 50 yard line on the top rows and I looked around wondering why it was so quiet.

Spirit of Atlanta came out in 1979, too. Good thing because they transported part of the Crossmen in when they had a bus breakdown.

Madison has ben out several times, the first in 1972. Cavaliers made a couple of trips in the 90's. Blue rock came out in 1974. Some blamed that trip for the financial problems that caused the corps to fold.

I, for one, am really looking forward to seeing Regiment come west again. I know a certain SoCal Dream guard instructor that's looking forward to it, too. She marched there from 83-85.
