Are there any records available online of past sweepstakes winners for this parade?

I don't know about records, but I have a program from the last Maytime back home. It has all the winners[sans scores] going back to 1948 I believe.

Ok it wasnt Magnolia it was Villa Park....And then it was Chula Vista in the small schools category...Thanks Amy :D

Aint it interesting that CP appears on both the large school and small school categories.... Shows how the school population has fluctuated in terms of placement for the divisions.....

Nope.... Magnolia didn't do marching band in the spring. 3 months of marching band in the fall was more than enough for the musicians...

If you lived in Southern san Diego county, you thrived on those 3 months of marching band in the fall and that one day in May. Truth be told though, it got harder and harder to get excited about the Maytime Band Review as the years rolled by. The quality of the bands, with few exceptions, changed drastically and of course, with all the cutbacks to schools, fewer and fewer bands attended each year. There were fun moments though right to end and you just never knew how the day would turn out. Always great memories of Montebello and Bonita Vista - both incredible bands during those last eight years!

I loved how Montebello Would take the music Sweepstakes trophy while Bonita Vista would take the overall....It reminded me of how Mt. Carmel would take the overall Sweeps when Rancho Bernardo would take the Music at Arcadia...Do you guys remember a few of those types of scenarios happening?

Yes cgamy, they were the two schools that would continuosly shine at Maytime.....

I may be wrong, but I think in those last years, it was Marching or Showmanship that went to MOB, and Music, Guard and overall sweeps went to BV.

"I may be wrong, but I think in those last years, it was Marching or Showmanship that went to MOB, and Music, Guard and overall sweeps went to BV."

It depended on the year...DR could probably help here but I believe that for the last 8 years of the Maytime event, BV won music and showmanship a few times and the overall sweepstakes as well as auxiliary sweepstakes. There were years that Montebello won music and showmanship as well. Plus, both bands always had incredibly good drum majors (MOB with those fast spinning military dm's and BV with those incredible mace dm's) It was always fun to meet up with them every year...their (MOB) roll-off always rocked my world, as did the look of the entire program...I like looking at the top of this website at the "old" Montebello auxiliary with the boots and all. When I was figuring out how to do this auxiliary "thing" in parade, that was the same look I tried to emulate back in the early 80's!

I remember marching at Maytime with Edgewood MS back in the Spring of 1998. It was the first major event of my musical career. And for that matter, one of the most memorable nearly a decade later. I still remember the atmosphere of that day.

HAHAHAHAHA I spoke to Larry Covellone about the uniform change and he plead the fifth.....Although I respected him and his band a great deal, I was shocked  the neatness that I saw in the various colors of th old uniforms always caught my attention...

The only other thing that Mr. Covellone mentioned, was that he needed to retire the old uniform as they were there since Magellan discovered Guam. I tried to get one of the honor Guard uniforms so I can copy it for my new Drum major on Guam but RC had no idea how to get approval since he is the new director in that school. he did not know who the uniforms belonged too ( School or district) and he wasn't at liberty to give one away. I don't blame him....I respect his decision.

And Yes, the MOB had a big impact on me when I heard the Marine Corp fanfare play at the step off. To see all those colors marching down to that tune, was spectacular.
